Hi Bob, I wanted your opinion on some stuff related to vegan diets:

I have been reading about this for quite some time now regargind Omega-3 fatty acids. Its said that ALA found in seeds like chia, flax and walnuts cannot be efficiently converted into EPA and DHA inside the human body and therefore are not very reliable sources of Omega-3's.
Especially people with insulin resistance should abstain from flax and instead consume fish oils because the ALA's can turn pro-inflammatory.

I'd like your opinion on this one.
Thanx and Regards

Hi Bob, just wanted to share some stuff with you. I've brought some major changes in my diet in the past few weeks. I have given up all dairy. So now I am technically a vegan. I eat raw 80% and cooked 20%. After some hard searching I have come across this wonderful lady Dr. Vijaya Venkat and she is a raw vegan foodist. You can google her and read about her. She is doing some wonderful stuff out here.
I have been reading some books by Dr Nand Kishore Sharma, a naturopath in New Delhi, India who has treated cancer patients naturally with raw food diets.
His book Milk - A silent killer is just awesome. He speaks common sense with very little medical jargon. Wish people like Dr. Mercola would stop fooling people into believing that animal food is our natural diet.

Best of Health :-)

Hi Bob, if I religiously follow the food pyramid and eat a variety of foods, do I still need to supplement with Angstrom minerals? I am not a huge fan of supplements and I believe no supplement whatsoever can give us the stuff found in whole foods.

Awaiting ur reply :-)

Hi Bob, I need your input on this one:
Because plants have to defend themselves against pests and diseases without any help from us, many of the defensive compounds plants produce are bitter and toxic for human consumption, which health gurus claim can be eliminated if they are slightly cooked maybe just steamed.

if this claim is true, then could u plz enlist the various vegetables that can be eaten raw and at the same time wont be toxic to the human body.
Awaiting your reply :-)

Hi Bob, appreciate your reply to my grains question. I have been doing some research on sprouts since you have included them in your food pyramid. While sprouts in general are a living, enzyme rich food, but there are also some contrasting views. For eg "Alfalfa sprouts are mildly toxic - do not eat them every day, and avoid them if you are a cancer patient, have a weak immune system or suffer from inflammation".

The next fact is a very serious one:-
Most raw sprouts contain hemagglutinins, which inhibit the absorption of proteins and fats. The worst are soybeans and kidney beans, followed by Pinto, Navy, Black eye, Lima, Black beans, Aduki (Adzuki) beans, lentils and peas. Hemagglutinins are destroyed by cooking.

I seriously want your opinion on this Bob. Are sprouts a real health food. And if they are which ones are safe to eat on a regular basis. I was recently diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroid. Are sprouts healthy for me too.
