Replace Traditional Protein Sources with Spirulina and Chlorella

Friday, May 15th, 2009

In general, cooked-food vegetarians don't get enough protein in their diet, which is a major problem that can lead to fatigue and many other health problems. Often people will simply remove meat , fish, eggs and dairy from their diet and become a strict vegetarian or vegan. This is a big mistake because protein is essential to the body in every way since it is the building blocks of our cells. Raw foodists can get away with only eating fruits and vegetables, but not cooked foodists since cooking irrevocably changes plant protein structure in a detrimental way that renders it weakened, chemically changed and therefore much less useful to the body. A severe lack of protein in the body will lead to cachexia where the organs are robbed of protein in order to perform bodily functions similar to the way the bones are robbed of calcium for bodily needs, which leads to osteoporosis .

A Raw-food Diet provides the body with a sufficient, but not ideal amount of protein. The body cannot store protein and will easily rid itself of any excess protein when it is derived from raw foods, not cooked animal-food sources. Excessive animal protein , on the other hand, will lead to severe imbalances in the body, leading to ketosis , uremia and a host of other diseases.

Protein must be consumed with every meal in order for the food to properly digest and its nutrients to be efficiently extracted and absorbed by the body. Digestion does not require a large amount of protein. Rather, the key is that you consume high quality plant protein that has a broad array of amino acids that are in the correct ratio to one another. Spirulina and Chlorella fit the bill perfectly. Only 2 – 4 grams of Spirulina and Chlorella (1.2 – 2.4 grams of protein) are needed with each meal to fulfill the protein needs of proper digestion. To exceed that amount would only enhance algae's digestive and other nutritional components. Both cooked and raw foods are digested better and more nutrients are extracted from them when a sufficient amount of protein is present. This is especially true of plant protein such as that found in algae.

Without protein, bodily functions such as hormones and nutrient absorption stumble and thrash about without direction. This is why I refer to protein as the Great Regulator.

Oncologists commonly advise their cancer patients to avoid meat and dairy products because they encourage cancer by elevating certain protein levels in the body, which indicate that the cancer is thriving. If meat and dairy should be avoided once you have cancer, then avoiding them would also be a good preventative health measure. In general, allopathic (medical) doctors preach prevention in a rather watered down, tepid way, if at all, which seems befitting of an industry that could not be more wrongheaded and misguided about health and the cure for disease.

Animal protein that has been denatured by cooking is a great detriment to the body. The antibiotics , hormones and steroids that are injected into livestock can adversely affect the growth of children and destroy the friendly bacteria that the human body needs for digestion. Animal protein must be broken down into basic amino acids to be reformed into protein chains that can then be used by the human body. This is a laborious and inefficient process that loots the body of energy and resources rather than nutrifies it. The biggest culprit is meat.

Definitions:

Vegetarian : Someone who does not eat meat , dairy, fish or eggs. Also means Vegan or Veggie .

Raw Food Vegan: Eats only raw algae, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Bob's Biography
Additional Spirulina Information
Additional Chlorella Information

A building constructed from inferior materials is ready to collapse at any moment, if not from external then from within. The body built of inferior materials awaits the same fate. The basic elements of the human cell must be constructed from the exact nutrients it has been using over millions of years of evolution or it will fold under the attack of any disease. Detractors of algae dismiss it as pond scum, which is a laughable assertion stated out of shear ignorance. The nutritional content of Spirulina or Chlorella make them the most powerful foods in the world. No other foods could possibly compete with them. Of the nearly 70,000 species of algae that exist, most are quite nutritious. A few are toxic and a few are powerful nutraceuticals capable of supplying the body with nutrients unimagined by most other foods. A nutraceutical is any food that provides the body with the proper nutrition so the body can heal itself.

Spirulina and Chlorella are perfect whole foods, true superfoods . They have perfect compliments of protein (60%) carbohydrates (19%), fats (6%) bio-available minerals (8%). They are not extracts, concentrates or amalgams of vitamins and minerals that look good on paper such as the vitamin and mineral supplements that people generally believe to be healthy. In reality, the body does not absorb 90% of these vitamin supplements because they are dead, void of enzymes. On the other hand, eating Spirulina or Chlorella is like eating any other whole food such as a banana, apple or broccoli.

Algae are the oldest foods in the world. Fossil records show that Spirulina and Chlorella have existed for billions of years essentially unchanged for all that time. They have both developed strategies of survival against harshly unfavorable conditions such as drought, radiation and even strong man-made poisons that have driven many other plant organisms to extinction.

There are several different species of these two algae, however the ones that I refer to here are Spirulina Platensis and Chlorella Pyrenoidosa. Another Chlorella product found on the market is known as Chlorella Vulgaris, which is nutritionally inferior to its powerful cousin Pyrenoidosa. The alga found in swimming pools is a close cousin to chlorella vulgaris . It does not have the broad array of nutrients of Pyrenoidosa, its incredible fiber nor does anywhere near the same amount or quality of Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF). Don't be fooled by price, Chlorella Pyrenoidosa is worth the extra money and why it is considered the most powerful food in the world.

A tremendous amount of scientific research has been done on both Spirulina and Chlorella from universities and medical institutions from around the world. They have proven to be one of the best solutions world hunger problems. They are also used as feed for all kinds of live stock. Once tableted, they will last up to a year with refrigeration and even longer if vacuum-packed.

Which one should you take?

Even though the nutritional profile of Spirulina and Chlorella are quite similar they are completely different foods, as different as apples and oranges. Although many of the nutrients in these foods are the same, they will assimilate and benefit the body in different ways. This is also why we should attempt to get as many different types of foods into our diet as possible. The greater array of nutrients in any food, the more nutritious it is.

Spirulina is a nitrogen based blue green algae and has the predominant odor of seaweed. Chlorella is an oxygen based green algae that has the predominant odor of fresh grass. Chlorella gets its name from the high amount of chlorophyll in it, up to 10 times that of Spirulina which is itself quite high in chlorophyll. Chlorella belongs to a class of algae called chlorophyta.

Spirulina is an extremely high energy food, great before or after a workout and is very good for the treatment of arthritis. Chlorella is excellent for digestion, heavy-metal detoxification, and is a immune system builder. Therefore, the answer to the question as to which of these two algae should you take is that you should definitely have both of them in your diet.

Protein, the Great Regulator

Spirulina and Chlorella are complete proteins meaning they provide the body with the eight essential amino acids, yet they go much further. They are 60% protein in the form of amino acids that are in the right ratio to one another. There is a lot of confusion and misinformation about protein, how much protein is actually in certain foods and what the protein actually consists of. For instance, most people assume meat is comprised of 100% protein when it is only 22% protein on average. Meat only has eleven amino acids and is heavily weighted in only four of them, which means that the body is receiving a very lopsided version of protein. What the body needs is a broad array of amino acids that are in the correct proportion to one another such as Spirulina, Chlorella and even wheat grass. Wheat grass juice is only 24% protein (higher than meat) compared to over 60% for Spirulina and Chlorella, which is the highest amount of protein of any whole foods.

Dosages

How much to take. When to take it.

Chlorella: A maintenance dosage of Chlorella is about 3 – 5 grams per day. Although you will not see significant changes taking such a small amount of whole food, your body will be getting a broad array of nutrients unlike it has seen before. Since Chlorella is a detoxifying whole food, not a concentrate or extract, a person can eat as much as they desire without any fear of it becoming potentially toxic in any way.

Chlorella is best taken before a meal with probiotics, our friendly bacteria ( Acidophilus and Bifidus ). Chlorella causes probiotics to multiply at four times the rate of normal.

Maintenance Dosage: 3 – 5 grams/day
Significant Part of the Diet: 6 – 10 grams/day
Immune System Builder: 11 – 14 grams/day
Primary Source of Protein : 12 – 19 grams/day
Healing Purposes & Heavy Metal Detoxification: 20 – 30+ grams/day

Best before a meal to aid with digestion.

Spirulina: A maintenance dosage of Spirulina is 3 -- 5 grams per day. Although their nutritional profile may appear to be quite similar, Spirulina and Chlorella are completely different foods. Spirulina is great before a physical workout. I take 5 – 6 grams religiously before any kind of physical training. Stamina, endurance and recovery are significantly improved with Spirulina. After a strenuous workout where the body is pushed to its limits, an additional 10 – 20 grams should be taken during the following 24 hours to rebuild the body and muscle tissue that has been torn down.

Spirulina should also be taken 15 – 30 minutes before a meal to help prepare the stomach for proper digestion since it also helps accelerate the reproductive rate of probiotics.

Maintenance Dosage: 3 – 5 grams/day
Significant Part of the Diet: 6 – 10 grams/day
Immune System Builder: 11 – 14 grams/day
Primary Source of Protein : 12 – 19 grams/day
Healing Purposes: 20 – 25+ grams/day

Also great before a workout.

The Anti-Aging Properties of Chlorella

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"Dr Benjamin Frank, author of The No-Aging Diet, suggests that human RNA/DNA production slows down progressively as people age, resulting in lower levels of vitality and increased vulnerability to various diseases. He recommended a diet rich in nucleic acids to counter this "aging" process. Current levels by laboratory analysis shows 3% RNA and 0.3% DNA in Chlorella which would make it one of the highest known food substances in nucleic acids.....When our RNA and DNA are in good repair and able to function most efficiently, our bodies are able to use nutrients more effectively, get rid of toxins and avoid disease. Cells are able to repair themselves and the energy level and vitality of the whole body is raised....Dr Frank had thought that brewer's yeast was the highest RNA food but then he found out sardines were 10 times higher (with 343mg per 100 grams). Chlorella is 10 times higher than sardines with 3g RNA per 100 grams....Eating foods high in nucleic acids provides the material for the repair and production of human nucleic acids, and it is the breakdown of DNA and RNA in the cells that is believed to be one of the main factors in aging and degenerative diseases." - Dr Bernard Jensen,D.O.,Ph.D.

Chlorella - The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

"Since Chlorella Growth Factor is so effective in stimulating growth in human beings and beefing up the immune system to fight off various diseases, Dr Bernard Jensen and other researchers have wondered whether or not Dr Frank's pioneering work on aging might apply to Chlorella....Dr Frank found that his treatment actually did help his patients regain energy and a more youthful appearance. In addition, long-standing problems with arthritis, memory loss and depression began to abate." - William H. Lee, R. Ph., Ph.D. and Michael Rosenbaum, M.D.

Chlorella’s Effect on the Immune System

Chlorella - Natural Medicinal Algae

"Immunology is the study of the immune system; the body's mechanisms developed to fight off foreign invaders, whether they be bacteria, viruses, chemicals or foreign proteins. The body's defenses have a unique way of inactivating or detoxifying each of these types of substances. B cells are active in fighting against bacteria; T cells are active against viruses and cancer; macrophages are active against cancer, foreign proteins and chemicals. Interferon is a natural secretion of the body and is thought to be a physiological stimulator of macrophages....Many more studies also demonstrate that Chlorella stimulates the immune system by way of macrophage stimulation." - Dr David Steenblock,B.S.,M.Sc.,D.O.

Chlorella - The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

"Antitumor activity linked to stimulation of immune elements was demonstrated in experiments reported to a 1985 immunology conference in France. The researchers concluded that the chlorella derivatives used enhanced macrophage activity and the cell-destroying ability of certain lymphocytes....In humans, immune system resistance to cold viruses was shown in a group of approximately 1,000 Japanese sailors in 1971. Roughly half the men got two grams of chlorella a day, the others none. At the end of the three month cruise, the untreated sailors had had 41% more colds than the chlorella takers. Chlorella contains 180mg of beta-carotene in each 100 grams. Beta-carotene has the greatest vitamin A activity and antioxidant activity of all the known carotenoids...The immune system is as susceptible as any other system in the body to free radical damage...Extracts of algae were also studied and were shown to be more effective than beta-carotene alone." - William H. Lee,R.Ph., Ph.D. and Michael Rosenbaum, M.D.

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"I feel that chlorella's main contribution to the body's natural defense system is its beneficial supportive effects on so many of the organs and systems, especially the immune system and eliminative channels.....in 1957, Dr Tadechi and his associates in Japan found that chlorella promoted rapid growth of lactobacillus, one of the bacteria that promotes colon health. The chlorophyll in chlorella helps to keep the bowel clean, while the tough cellulose membrane of chlorella (which is not digested) binds to the cadmium, lead and other heavy metals and carries them out of the body. The CGF stimulates repair of tissue damage. To summarize, chlorella restores bowel regularity, normalizes beneficial bowel flora, assists in detoxifying the bowel and stimulates repair of damaged, broken down tissue." - Dr Bernard Jensen,D.O.,Ph.D.

Chlorella

"A combined report, from researchers at the University of Kanazawa, Japan, and of Taipei in Taiwan, was presented at an International Congress at Reims, France in 1985. It dealt with the anti-tumor effect of chlorella and the strengthening of the immune system. In several studies on mice, tumors had been overcome by inoculation with derivatives of chlorella cells; this was considered to be due to the increased strength of their immune systems, resulting from the chlorella administered." - Special Edition of Health World Magazine 1989

RNA/DNA Contained in Chlorella

Chlorella - The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

Spirulina is extremely high in both RNA and DNA which performs functions in building the human cell that we are only beginning to understand. It is many times higher in RNA and DNA than sardines, which are considered to have one of the highest contents. Without RNA and DNA, the human cell cannot be properly formed, nor can it divide properly. This means that when sufficient amounts of RNA and DNA are not present in the cell Chlorella is also high in RNA and DNA.

"Dr Benjamin Frank believed that the loss of energy and physical deterioration associated with aging was due to the increasing breakdown of nucleic factors (DNA/RNA) which are needed to keep the cells healthy. He put his patients on a diet rich in RNA and DNA foods...such as canned or fresh sardines, salmon or other sea foods, wheat germ and green leafy vegetables. Canned sardines are thought to be among the highest sources of RNA at 590mg per 100 grams. Since he published his research it has been determined that Chlorella has several times the nucleic content of sardines". - William H. Lee, R. Ph., Ph.D. and Michael Rosenbaum, M.D.

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"Current levels by laboratory analysis shows 3% RNA and 0.3% DNA in Chlorella which would make Chlorella one of the highest known food substances in nucleic acids. Used regularly Chlorella would assist in the repair of damaged genetic material in human cells, protecting our health and slowing down the aging process....When our RNA and DNA are in good repair and able to function most efficiently, our bodies get rid of toxins and avoid disease. Cells are able to repair themselves, and the energy level and vitality of the whole body is raised....Chlorella has 5 times the RNA and DNA of canned sardines." - Dr Bernard Jensen, D.O., Ph.D.

Chlorella and Chlorophyll

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"Chlorella contains the highest percentage of chlorophyll in the known plant world, from 1.7% to 7%. The chlorophyll molecule is very similar to the hemoglobin molecule in blood, and it acts as a wonderful cleanser in the bowel, kidneys, liver and bloodstream. Green plants help build red blood cell count and control calcium in the body. Chlorella contains as high as 7% chlorophyll, 35 times more than we find in alfalfa.

An experiment by the US Army showed that animals fed chlorophyll-rich greens survived twice as long as other animals when all were exposed to fatal levels of radiation. Another experiment by scientists at National Taiwan University showed that Chlorella helped protect rats from liver damage when they were fed a toxic chemical named ethionine." - Dr. Bernard Jensen,D.O.,Ph.D.

Chlorella - The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

"Chlorella's chlorophyll content is important, because it makes an important contribution to chlorella's effect in the body. One example of this is stimulation of erythrocyte (red cell) formation in the blood.

Two University of Liverpool scientists performed several studies on laboratory animals. In one, induced anemic rabbits were given varying doses of chlorophyll (refined or fresh). The rabbits were able to convert chlorophyll into hemoglobin, thus correcting the anemia. Although the reaction occurred with both types of chlorophyll, the percentage of conversion was higher when the fresh chlorophyll was used.

In 1941 Dr. S.L.Goldberg reported on treatment of 300 patients suffering from pyorrhea (bleeding gums and loosening teeth), noting significant improvement. Vincent's stomatitis, a gum infection which occurs most often in persons suffering from stress with an underlying cause of a severe vitamin C deficiency, was also treated by the doctor with chlorophyll. Goldberg noted that the use of chlorophyll resulted in a tightening of the teeth, the cessation of bleeding from the gums and the growth of new tissue to replace damaged tissue." - William H. Lee,R.Ph., Ph.D. and Michael Rosenbaum, M.D.

Chlorella - Natural Medicinal Algae

"In addition to CGF, Chlorella also contains more chlorophyll per gram than any other plant. Since chlorophyll's chemical structure is similar to hemoglobin’s (the red pigment of blood) several scientists have suggested the use of chlorophyll as a medical therapy for anemia. A complete review of chlorophyll and its effectiveness in correcting anemia as well as other medical uses was presented by Kephart in 1955. Briefly, if the person is not lacking iron or copper, the addition of chlorophyll may stimulate the production of blood presumably by providing the precursors to hemoglobin. Much research has been done which has proven that chlorophyll or its derivatives influence bacterial and animal growth, metabolism, and respiration. Chlorophyll or its derivatives stimulate the formation of erythrocytes in the blood, and affect nutrition, synthesis of vitamins in plants, hormone action, tumors, and a number of diseases, like anemia, arteriosclerosis, cardiac hypertension and others." - Dr. David Steenblock,B.S.,M.Sc.,D.O.

Chlorella and Healing

Chlorella - Natural Medicinal Algae

"The pioneering work to introduce chlorophyll into medicine was done by Burgi, who used chlorophyll preparations under the name Chlorosan for wound healing. In 1930 Rollet and Burgi first demonstrated that extracts of green plants had stimulating effects on tissues growth. In a very extensive study, Smith and Livingston studied the healing of 1,372 experimentally induced wounds and burns by the topical application of seventeen medical preparations. Of all the agents studied only chlorophyll preparations showed consistent statistically significant positive results. Wound healing was accelerated by 24.9% and occurred in 67.9% of the cases. In another study Dr Smith demonstrated that chlorophyll in concentrations between 0.05 to 0.5% in tissue culture caused an "almost immediate growth response" of fibroblasts -the cells the body uses to repair wounds." - Dr David Steenblock,B.S.,M.Sc.,D.O.

Chlorella - The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

"In the early 1950s, Dr. Fujimaki of the People's Scientific Research Center in Tokyo separated a substance from a hot-water extract of Chlorella by electrophorosis (electrically induced movement of suspended particles through water). This hitherto unknown fraction of Chlorella was found to be rich in nucleic factors and was named Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF)." (because it caused the lactobacillus in a culture medium to grow at 400% normal rate, subsequent experiments with young animals and children showed that adding Chlorella to the diet caused increases in weight and size).
"This capacity to promote growth in the young is apparently related to Chlorella’s ability to stimulate the healing process in the body and work against many disease states - probably due to its nucleic acid content more than anything else - since the same substances and process that accelerate growth in the young promote repair of damaged tissue in mature animals and humans." - William H. Lee,R.Ph., Ph.D. and Michael Rosenbaum, M.D.

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"No medical claims are being made for chlorella. I know that Chlorella is a food, not a medicine. We should realize, however, that when the proper foods are used, together with the right supplements to build up the health level of the body, diseases are often "crowded out". This is nature's way of healing the body. To put it very simply, there is no room for disease in a healthy body. When the tissues are cleansed and strengthened, and when we have removed the obstacles to healing that drag on all the glands and organs, I feel the body heals of its own accord. It would be difficult to describe the many highly technical experiments scientists have run to find out what biologically active substances are in CGF and what these substances do, singly and in combination. We must realize, however, that the reason why many scientists are putting so much time and effort into investigating Chlorella and CGF is because there is already a great deal of proof that Chlorella and CGF, even in relatively small amounts, stimulate growth, tissue repair and healing to an extent not previously found in any other food." - Dr Bernard Jensen,D.O.,Ph.D.

Chlorella and Its Effect on Degenerative Diseases

Chlorella - Natural Medicinal Algae

"With the continuos exposure of our foods to hydrocarbon insecticides and herbicides it seems that Chlorella should find its way onto everyone's dining table. Chlorella should be taken daily to remove these harmful substances from our bodies before they cause cancer and other degenerative diseases. Chlorella has great potential in aiding the treatment of cancer, AIDS, Epstein Barr virus and other chronic viral illnesses and is especially helpful in preventing the degenerative diseases associated with the aging process." - Dr David Steenblock,B.S.,M.Sc.,D.O.

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"We must realize that mineral salts in the soil must be water soluble to be used by plants, and if they are water soluble they are also subject to becoming dissolved by rain, washed into streams and rivers and carried off to sea. It is only in this last century that intensive agricultural methods have displaced more natural means of restoring soils. In a few decades, agriculture has stripped the earth of nutrients that may have taken nature thousands or millions of years to put there. The bottom line, depleted soils build depleted food crops; depleted foods build depleted bodies; depleted bodies build disease....Chlorella, unlike most food crops, is grown in liquid, not in soil. The proper ingredients for its efficient growth can be easily obtained, so it can be grown almost anywhere (climate permitting), and the percentage of its various nutrients can be changed by modifying the growth medium. Chlorella transforms inorganic chemicals into active, living bio-nutrients, sun-energized to provide vital food nutrients." - Dr. Bernard Jensen,D.O.,Ph.D.

Some of Chlorella’s Nutritive Qualities

Saturday, June 21st, 2008
Some of Chlorella's Nutritive Qualities:
Extremely High in Vitamins, Minerals & Amino Acids (Protein) [Top]
There are over 70,000 species of algae in the world. Some are magnificent whole foods such as Chlorella Pyrensoida. Watershed Chlorella is this very particular strain of Chlorella. It is a green algae, one of the oldest foods on the planet. Fossils exist of Chlorella Pyrensoidosa that are over 4 billion years old. Chlorella is extremely high in vitamins and minerals (see chart on reverse side). It contains the full Vitamin B Complex (synonymous with high energy), Vitamins E & C and has a wide range of minerals, including magnesium, potassium, iron and calcium. It is great for anyone to take at any age, from infant or elderly.

Powerful Nutraceutical [Top]
The human body is perfectly capable of healing itself if it is provided with the necessary vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients it needs. There are many foods that have healing and preventative health qualities, but none possess such powerful and wide-ranging and diverse group nutrients as Chlorella. Chlorella provides the body with the proper nutrients it needs so it can heal itself.

Chlorophyll and Magnesium Promote Cardiovascular Health [Top]
Chlorella gets its name from the high amounts of chlorophyll it possesses, the highest of any plant known. Chlorophyll cells are nearly identical to hemoglobin (red blood cells) with one exception: Chlorophyll has a magnesium molecule at that center of it; hemoglobin has an iron molecule at the center of it. This is important because magnesium is essential for the heart to function properly. Every time our heart beats, it is utilizing magnesium to do so. Chlorophyll has been used successfully in the treatment of cardiac hypertension. It also cleanses that bowel, kidneys, liver and bloodstream. Chlorophyll is effective against anemia and stimulates the production of red blood cells in the body. It also helps carry oxygen around the body and to the brain. This is why Chlorella is often called "Brain Food".

Contains Natural Digestive and other Enzymes [Top]
Chlorella contains enzymes such as chlorophyllase and pepsin, which are digestive enzymes. Enzymes perform a myriad of functions in the body. In fact, you can not even blink without the presence of enzymes. Chlorella has many different types of enzymes that our bodies need. It is essential that any algae you take is NOT freeze dried or pasteurized. If it is, then you have lost the crucial benefit of enzymes such as these.

Aides Digestion, Bad Breath, Constipation [Top]
This is something you will notice about Chlorella soon after first taking it. Chlorella reproduces at an incredible rate, quadrupling every 48 hours. When eaten, Chlorella causes the beneficial bacteria in our stomach (Lactobacillus) to multiply at four times the normal rate. This improves digestion and thus the body's ability to take in nutrients greatly. Proper digestion, augmented with the necessary enzymes, is one of the keys to great health!

Best Natural Detoxifier Known for Heavy metals and other Synthetics [Top]
Information on tests kits now available for heavy metal testing.
Chlorella is comprised of a fibrous, indigestible outer shell (20%) and its inner nutrients(80%). It is the fibrous material that has been proven to actually bind with heavy metals and other synthetics that have accumulated in our bodies. The entire cleansing of the blood and organs will begin to happen after a period of 3-6 months depending on the dosage taken. A person taking 15-20 grams of Chlorella per day is not at all unheard of if someone is trying to combat a disease with the amazing medicinal properties of Chlorella. It is a whole-food, not a concentrate or extract, therefore you can NOT take too much of it because of its detoxifying abilities.

Shown to be helpful in the Fight against Alzheimer's, Dementia & Attention Deficit Disorder
Alzheimer's patients have all been demonstrated to have high levels of aluminum concentrated in their brains. This can come from several sources including soft drink cans (because the extremely low pH of soft drinks), many deodorants and cooking pots and utensils. Chlorella binds with aluminum and other heavy metals to pull them out. The huge amount of chlorophyll that Chlorella has provides oxygen to the brain aiding alertness and mental focus.

Powerful Immune System Builder: The Mysterious Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) [Top]
Chlorella has the ability to quadruple in quantity every 20 hours, which no other plant or substance on earth can do. It is programmed into its DNA to do so. It causes children and young animals to grow at a must faster rate and for damaged tissue to increase its healing rate. However, exactly what this CGF substance is still remains a deep mystery. It has hormone-like qualities to it and while it does not make adults grow faster, it does stimulate tissue repair, even if it has been ulcerated or damaged and has resisted traditional healing methods. Chlorella has been used effectively as a topical treatment for damaged tissue.

Chlorella is alkaline [Top]
Helps Balance your Body's pH It is important that we maintain a balanced body pH of ideally about 7.2-7.4, which is about neutral. However because of our poor diet of junk food, fast food, over-cooked, processed foods, especially soft drinks (the worst is cola), which have a pH of 2.7. This is several thousand times more acidic than our bodies. This is important because all diseases start and live and thrive in an acidic environment and do not live well in an alkaline environment . Thus it follows that to keep ourselves as alkaline as possible.* Becoming too alkaline is rare but not unheard of. Cancer rates have risen steadily until now that fully one third of all people in the United States will get cancer in their lifetime! The rise of fast, junk and processed foods match those of rising cancer rates. Thirty years ago, cancer in children was almost unheard of. Now they have entire hospital wards given over to children with cancer. We are too acidic! That's why we are getting sick!

Watershed Chlorella comes in 100% pure 250mg tablets with no fillers or binders.

How Watershed Chlorella's Cell Wall is Opened [Top]
Chlorella's indigestible cell wall needs to be ruptured to allow access to its nutrients and a variety of methods are used by other companies, some of which damage the nutrients. The method used by our Chlorella Producer (TCMC) ensures the highest quality, which is confirmed by an annual independent analysis by the Japan Food Research Laboratory. Japan is the only country that has strict standards and importation controls over heavy metals and bacterial content in Chlorella. The digestibility of our Chlorella is confirmed by the Japan Government's Ministry of Health to be between 76% and 79%, the highest on the market.   Most brands claim to have broken the Chlorella cell wall so its nutrients can be adsorbed by the body. Our Chlorella was analyzed by Dr L. Lewis, Doctor of Physiology at Duke University in 1992. Using a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), two samples of Chlorella were examined, ours and a competitor's brand. Both were deemed to be free of contamination, however, our Chlorella was the only one to demonstrate that the cell wall had been broken in the SEM examination. The cell wall of our competitor's Chlorella had collapsed but remained unbroken and was only 40% digestible.

The method of cultivation serves to ensure the purity of the harvest which is much easier to guarantee within a controlled environment than by taking "pot-luck" in a natural lake where some blue-green algae (AFA) is grown and where water quality, pH, bacteria and competing algae are variable, unpredictable and often toxic. Cyranobacterial algae such as Anabaina and AFA found in Klamath Lake are toxic regardless of whether they are in a polluted source or a pristine environment. This is not a concern for Chlorella which is a chorophyta, not cyanopheta, and never toxic regardless of the environment.

Chlorella Strengthens the Immune System. B-cells are active against viruses and other illnesses. Macrophages are large cells that surround and digest foreign substances in the body. They are active against foreign proteins and chemicals. There are a finite number in the body, therefore limiting the ability of the body to remove harmful substances from the blood. One of the ways to strengthen the immune system is the use of agents to stimulate macrophage production and activity. Interferon is a natural secretion of the body that is thought to be a stimulator of macrophages. Chlorella stimulates the activity of T-cells and macrophages by increasing interferon levels enhancing the immune system's ability to combat foreign invaders whether they are bacteria, viruses, chemicals or foreign proteins.

In Japan, where Chlorella is consumed by an estimated 7 million people daily, it is referred to as a functional food, a category which distinguishes Chlorella as being of proven scientific benefit to the diet. It is not a health food supplement.

In 1974 the Japanese Government was obliged to introduce quality standards to control the importation of Chlorella because of the disparity between grades and purity values. In 1995 our Chlorella became the only producer ever to be licensed to import and sell their products with an official health food recognition seal in Japan.

Most producers use a "continuous-harvest" method drawing quantities of raw algae from the growing ponds as required. This method is certainly economically efficient, but it also presents a very real risk of breeding competing toxic organisms and bacteria.

There are various methods of separating the Chlorella cells from the carrier water. The cheapest and most common is to use flocculating chemicals that cause liquids to separate into individual layers. Chlorella producers using this method do not list the residual toxic chemicals in the nutritional contents on their labels!

In the manufacturing of our Chlorella, a complex separation system is used with micro-filter centrifuges allowing them to separate the cells without the use of chemicals.

Our Chlorella is independently tested on an annual basis by the Japanese Government's Ministry of Health and is confirmed to be 76% to 79% digestible.

Recommended Daily Dosage

Chlorella: 250 mg tablets - 4 Tablets = 1 gram 1 teaspoon powder = 2 grams

A maintenance dosage of Chlorella is about 12 – 20 tablets per day.

Maintenance Dosage: 12 – 20 tablets/day

Chlorella’s Effect on Digestion and Digestive Tract Health

Chlorella - The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

"Bowel detoxification and bowel health are also in Chlorella's domain. The cell wall material included in natural Chlorella products has a highly important effect in the intestines: it has the capability of improving bowel function, it stimulates the growth of aerobic, friendly bacteria, and the cell walls act to absorb poisons within the intestine and promote normal peristalsis. Peristalsis is the muscular contraction that moves material through the bowels. This normal movement prevents constipation and also plays a part in preventing toxic material in the stool from being reabsorbed into the bloodstream. The ability of Chlorella to stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria and to detoxify chemicals can be put to good use by persons suffering from a Candida albicans infection." - William H. Lee,R.Ph., Ph.D. and Michael Rosenbaum, MD

Chlorella, Jewel of the Far East

"Chlorella contains more chlorophyll per gram than any other known plant....In 1944 Smith reported on the anti-bacterial properties of water soluble chlorophyll derivatives...he concluded that chlorophyll acts to produce an environment unfavorable to the growth of bacteria instead of by any direct action upon the organisms themselves. The ability of these derivatives to hold back anaerobic bacterial growth points, in his opinion, to an oxidation mechanism. In addition to chlorophyll's action on anaerobic bacteria, Chlorella's cell wall acts to absorb poisons within the intestine and promote normal peristalsis. The intestinal tract (especially the small intestine) is lined by patches of lymphocytes which are probably stimulated by the Chlorella cell wall material to increase their abilities to destroy foreign invaders such as anaerobic bacteria. Chlorella also stimulates the growth of the good intestinal bacteria (lactobacillus) and those that produce vitamin B 12." "Chlorella - Natural Medicinal Algae" by Dr David Steenblock,B.S.,M.Sc.,D.O.

"The bowel is the most important elimination organ in the body. It is often affected by dietary deficiencies, lack of fiber, lack of exercise and the stress of modern living. Chlorella has proven itself to be a wonderful cleanser and tonic for the bowel, even restoring the normal function of a flaccid, under-active bowel, in some cases. The average colon contains 400 to 500 species of bacteria, fungi, yeast and virus, which scientists classify as "friendly" (beneficial to the body) or "unfriendly" flora, such as E.coli, which multiply rapidly until they make up 85% of the bowel flora. These add their own highly poisonous wastes to the colon environment, increasing the toxin level even more. We have to consider that a toxic, under-active bowel indicates a very dangerous situation. There are four components of Chlorella that accelerate the process of bowel cleansing and detoxification. These four ingredients are chlorophyll, Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF), protein and fiber, which work in harmony to clean up the colon. The chlorophyll in Chlorella is the most powerful cleansing agent found in nature. As it begins to detoxify the bowel, it also detoxifies the liver and bloodstream, feeds the friendly flora and soothes irritated tissue along the bowel wall. CGF speeds up healing in the bowel wall, while the protein in Chlorella is immediately available to repair and rebuild damaged tissue, and the RNA so abundant in Chlorella also hastens the healing process." - Dr Bernard Jensen,D.O.,Ph.D.
