The AARP endorses Spirulina as the #1 Food for Anti-aging

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

The American Assoication for Retired Persons (AARP) has endorsed spirulina as the best anti-aging one can consume.

"1. Spirulina (blue-green algae) Spirulina contains not only the antioxidant phycocyanin but also a bundle of protein, plus omega fatty acids. Once a mainstay food of the Aztecs, spirulina additionally works as an ibuprofenlike nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. Add one teaspoon to one tablespoon of spirulina a day to smoothies or yogurt, or take it in capsule form. Caution: for some people, spirulina can be overstimulating (kind of like too much coffee), so experiment to find the right balance." http://www.aarpmagazine.org/health/longevity_foods.html

Bob McCauley wrote about spirulina in his best-selling book, Achieving Great Health. Also available in Chinese translation. The Watershed Wellness Center promotes spirulina as a central part of everyone's diet and as a food that should be used for a protein source, or replacement, for meat, fish eggs and dairy products.

Spirulina information, videos and articles are here. Purchase spirulina here. We offer both tablets and powder, as well as chlorella/spirulina tablet combination.

Health Beginner to Health Master
A Step by Step Guide to Achieving Great Health

by Bob McCauley

Level One: Copper
Begin drinking Ionized Water
There is nothing needed by the body more than water and there is no better water than Ionized Water. Ionized Water is a powerful antioxidant that alkalizes the body and hydrates the body better than any other water because the size and shape of its water molecule clusters is much smaller than conventional water. This also helps flush unwanted substances, i.e. toxins, out of the body. Ionized Water is extremely detoxifying.

Level Two: Bronze
Add Spirulina and Chlorella to your diet
These are the most powerful whole foods in the world and what we should use for our main protein source. If you take 3 – 4 grams of either Spirulina or Chlorella with each meal that is all the protein you will need for that meal. If you want to eat animal protein, meat, fish, eggs or dairy, it is strictly for the taste and is not required by the body. The more we can limit if not eliminate animal protein from our diet the healthier we will be. Only 10 grams (40 tablets – 250 mg each tablet) of Spirulina and/or Chlorella provides the body with all the protein it requires. Spirulina and Chlorella are the most powerful superfoods known, the absolute kings of the plant world. They are the most nutritionally dense and have the broadest array of nutrients of any whole foods known.

Level Three: Silver
Step taking Angstrom Minerals each day
Minerals are the Keys that start the Engine of our Health. Every bodily process depends on a particular mineral to take place. Whether it is the production of an amino acid or an enzyme interaction, the proper mineral must be present for it to occur. It is difficult for us to consume foods that have enough minerals in them and even more difficult for the body to absorb them. For optimal health we need to supplement with angstrom minerals. Angstrom refers to the incredibly small size of the minerals. These liquid minerals are taken in small amounts and held in the mouth under the tongue so they are absorbed through the sublingual gland. This allows the minerals to be injected directly into the bloodstream where they can efficiently be used by the body as it needs them. It has been my observation that people who are mineral deficient tend to live lives of scarcity while people who are mineral rich tend to live lives of abundance.

Level Four: Gold
Begin taking Prebiotics or Probiotics
Probiotics are critical to human health. Lactobacillus Acidophilus is a friendly bacterium necessary for the digestion of proteins. It also reduces fungus infections, lowers blood cholesterol, aids general digestion and enhances nutrient absorption. Deficiencies may result in constipation, bloating, intestinal toxicity, gas, bad breath, Candida, mold and fungal infections. Bifidus is key for the synthesis of the vitamin K and B vitamins, including Vitamin B-12. Deficiency of Bifidus can cause constipation, gas and elevated levels of ammonia from protein digestion, which can lead to liver toxicity. Probiotics also help keep harmful bacteria such as H-Priori and e-coli Prebiotics are fermented foods that are beneficial to the growth of intestinal flora such as Acidophilus and Bifidus, therefore they work together to provide the body with intestinal wellbeing. This is of vital importance since most diseases of the body begin the digestive tract.

Level Five: Platinum
Begin Eating More Raw Foods
Try to include as many different kind of raw foods to your diet as possible. I personally eat 200 – 250 foods each year. Although I may consume very small amounts of some of them, it’s important to remember that each and every food is completely unique. My Raw Food Pyramid explains which foods you should eat and in what quantities. Our diet should consist mostly of green foods because Chlorophyll is the single most important nutrient required by the body. Therefore, most of what we consume should consist of green leafy foods such as kale, spinach, parsley and arugula. Cooking foods destroys their enzymes and scrambles chemical structure of the food greatly diminishing the nutrient potential of that food. Cooking foods above 105F transforms them from alkaline, rejuvenating foods that reduce the oxidation of the body into a substance that is no longer recognizable by the body. Cooked foods acidify, provide little nutrition and increase the oxidation of the body, which accelerates the aging process.

There are many ways to start including raw foods in your diet, such as making a juice and/or having a salad each day. Doing either one or both of these on a regular basis will make a tremendous difference in your health.

Level Six: Diamond
Add Herbal Extracts and Chlorella Growth Factor to your Diet

Herbs are plants that we have determined possess powerful attributes that are beneficial to our health. They are not complete foods such as Spirulina and Chlorella, meaning they do not have a balanced compliment of protein (amino acids), carbohydrates and fat. Rather, herbs are concentrated in one or more chemical compounds, each that have profound health benefits of different kinds. And since there are innumerable plants, there are innumerable kinds of benefits to our health. When we take Herbs that are best taken with complete foods such as Spirulina and/or Chlorella that have protein, carbohydrates and fats in them. This allows these powerful herbs to be mollified as they enter the bloodstream. This is especially true of people who are very toxic, are on medications or have been sick for a very long time.

For instance, the herb Tribulus has chemical saponins that build muscle in the body. Mucuna has L-Dopamine that acts as a mood enhancer and has been shown in studies to improve neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. Valerian has valproic acid that helps us to relax. It also encourages deep, regular sleep patterns. Bacopa contains chemical components known as bacosides that improve memory and mental focus. The curcumin found in Turmeric is excellent for inflammation in the body. Studies also show that it can also help in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Ashwagandha is an herb that helps relieve stress, strain, fatigue, pain, skin diseases, diabetes, gastrointestinal disease, rheumatoid arthritis and epilepsy. It also helps increase energy as well as improves health and longevity. Shilajit counteracts Diabetes and regulates the blood sugar levels. Shilajit stimulates the immune system and improves recovery time after exercise. Shilajit counteracts debility and general fatigue. Chemical analyses of this brain-powering root, Maca, reveal an astonishing profile of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, sterols, fatty acids, and glucosinates.

Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) is essentially concentrated chlorella that contains extremely high amounts of amino acids (protein), polysaccharides, nucleic acids (RNA/DNA) as well as other nutrients including the vitamin-B complex. The nucleotide-peptide complex in CGF performs small miracles in the body. It is an incredible immune system builder by stimulating B-cell, macrophage and interferon production. Nucleic acids are depleted by lack of exercise, stress, pollution and poor diet. Replenishing RNA/DNA is therefore fundamental to every aspect of bodily health, longevity and quality of life. CGF is available in both liquid and powder.

At the Diamond Level, I also recommend that you start using a Far Infrared Sauna each day. Exposure to Far Infrared Rays are energizing, detoxifying and superior immune system builders. As you literally sweat out heavy metals, acrylamides, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and other toxins of every imaginable kind, you will help encourage an environment that is not conducive to disease.

Other recommendations for Achieving Great Health at any level: Exercise vigorously for 15 – 30 minutes each day, get plenty of rest and, most importantly, maintain a positive mental attitude. Actively seek a relationship with God and know that your body is His temple and when you dishonor it the result is sickness and disease. However, when you honor the temple that God has given you the result is always the same: Great Health.

Nature Built - Guard Against the Flu

The Watershed Wellness Center announces the release of a new product: Nature Built - Guard Against the Flu. It is a Natural Flu and Virus Firewall – is a nutritional compound scientifically demonstrated to block viruses from entering cells – including viruses that cause the flu (1) and enterovirus (2). Nature Built offers General Virus Protection. Based on the scientific results, Nature Built has broad anti-virus properties. Some of the yet to be published results indicate excellent viral inhibition including enterovirus-71, influenza virus type A and B, herpes virus, dengue virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and rotavirus. Nature Built - Guard Against the Flu's unique benefits and production methods are protected by U.S. and international patents and have been subjected to rigorous scientific study.

Nature Built is not a drug. It's a patented nutritional supplement concentrated and purified from proprietary strain FEM-101 and organically grown spirulina, a healthful blue green algae so rich in nutrients it's commonly called a superfood. It takes the equivalent of 450 tablets of spirulina to make one serving of Nature Built or more than 13,000 tablets to make a single box! Nature Built does not kill viruses. Instead, it protects cells by creating a "viral firewall" that many viruses can't cross. While Nature Built is not intended to treat or prevent illness, just like vitamins.

In addition different types of flu virus, Nature Built has also been shown to inhibit a number of other pathogens including several potentially serious intestinal viruses (Enterovirus 71 and Coxsackie virus A162) that may cause illness, paralysis and even death, especially in children. Additional research is currently underway to explore Nature Built's range and mechanisms of action.

All information presented through this web site, whether by The Watershed Wellness Center or associated manufacturers, has not been evaluated by the FDA, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. These products are neither formulated nor prescribed for any medical condition. They are formulated for use as an important addition to the daily diet.

Honoring the Temple of God – A Christian Health Perspective

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

I will be blogging about my book: Honoring the Temple of God - A Christian Health Perspective, (pub. date 06/06/2008) for the next several months in an effort to get feedback on the book. HTG is a seemingly radical approach to natural health from the viewpoint of what the average person eats. However, what is truly radical is how we eat our way to disease day in and day out and then want to blame it on "life" or other "circumstance" beyond their control. The disease they have "happened to them" and where the responsibility lies is anywhere but with themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone is the author of their own health or disease. Most of us would consider this a radical idea, but the truth is that if you are sick it is exclusively the result of your lifestyle you have led and the foods you have put into your body. What we consume accumulates either into health or disease. You, and only you, are responsible your own health. If you find yourself with any kind of disease of any kind it is because you have not honored the temple that God has given you.

My book, HTG, lays out exactly how we get disease in the first place, what we can do to avoid and what we should do if we do get sick. My seven component health protocol explains my entire philosophy regarding health. I'll also introduce you to my Beginner to Master (Copper to Diamond) step by step progression toward incredible health, the kind of health most people only can dream of.

"Jesus speaks of the body as being the living temple of God and refers to his own body as a temple. His words are misunderstood, as was much of his message to those who lived in those times. The Bible states that health and wellness is found with God. If your body is full of disease it is because of the choices you have made. All disease comes from our diet. Our genes have nothing to do with whether we get sick or not. Disease does not run in our families due to genetics, but rather dietary habits that tend to lead to many of the same diseases."

My health protocol is simple to understand, but parts of it are difficult to adhere to completely. However, I break it down into simple, understandable steps so that the average person do it if they are determined.

Top 10 Nutritional Reasons Meat Should Be Avoided

Friday, May 15th, 2009

1) Meat is extremely acidic and deposits a great deal of acid into the body where it collects in the joints and around the organs, creating an overall more acid profile in the body. Slaughterhouses are currently using techniques that tenderize the meat by electrocuting it repeatedly, which releases even more of the acid in the meat.
2) Meat contains no dietary fiber whatsoever, a critical component of human health. This makes meat very difficult to digest.
3) Meat contains absolutely no enzymes once it has been cooked, another critical component of human health.
4) Meat contains a limited number of nutrients other than protein. One of them is Vitamin B-12, one of the few good sources of that nutrient. However, the Vitamin B Complex operates optimally with all the B Vitamins present, B1 (Thiamin), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5 (Pantothenic Acid), B6 (Pyridoxine), B12 (Cobalamin).
5) The proteins found in meat must be broken down into amino acids and reformed into human proteins. This is inefficient and requires more energy to process than vegetable amino acids, which are considered predigested protein.
6) Cancer patients are told by their doctors to avoid meat because it encourages the spread of the disease. We can easily conclude from this is encourages the disease to start as well.
7) Enormous amounts of hormones, steroids, antibiotics and other medications are regularly injected into the beef cattle meant for human consumption.
8) Slaughterhouses are notoriously filthy. E-coli and the removal of hay from the cattle's diet.
9) Raising cattle and other livestock for slaughter is far more costly than vegetable protein. For instance, Spirulina farming operations typically produce over 200,000 pounds (91,000 kg) of Spirulina per year on only fifteen acres of land. Since Spirulina is 60% protein, that calculates to a staggering 120,000 pounds (54,500 kg) of protein per year or 8,000 pounds per acre. This far exceeds the yield of other high protein crops such as triticale grain, kamu and even soybeans. The amount of protein derived from cattle per acre is negligible compared with that of either Spirulina or Chlorella.
10) We eat for taste and only for taste. The nutritional benefits of meat are far out-weighed by the negative effects it has on the body.

Algae is also a much cleaner crop to produce since there is no manure or fertilizer used to grow the algae. Thus there is no possibility of contamination from commercial manure or chemical fertilizers and of course there is no run off pollution from them.

My Response to Dr. Andrew Weil’s Assessment of Spirulina and Chlorella

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Dr. Weil does not have much to say about spirulina and chlorella, yet they are the most powerful foods known. In his Article on Spirulina and chlorella, he states the following: “ Spirulina and chlorella are two varieties of freshwater algae - primitive plants that are cultivated for nutritional use, dried and sold as dark green powders or tablets. They are very expensive and heavily promoted as miracle supplements.

Expense is relative when you are speaking about the cost of any food. You will spend $4 or $5 on a box of cereal but you will get almost no nutritional value out of that box of cereal even though the box states otherwise. This is because the body has tremendous difficulty absorbing nutrients from dead foods, especially those that have been highly processed. Like all cooked foods, the box of cereal will do nothing to improve your health. However, when you spend $40 on a large bottle of chlorella or spirulina, you have spent money on foods that can radically change your health for the better. When you think of it in those terms, a box of cereal costs a fortune because it provides the body with little nutrition and, like all cooked foods, lead to all disease. As I often state, we spend a fortune making ourselves sick when for a very small amount of money we can obtain true health, especially when we spend our money on true superfoods such as spirulina and chlorella.

No food can perform miracles of health in the body. Rather it is what the body will do with those nutrients once they have been consumed that allows the body to cure itself of any disease. Vitamin A in large doses can help a person feel better when they have a cold, but it is a band aid that can only help the body in the short term because it does not lead to true health. It fools us into thinking that taking supplements are a healthy thing to do when in fact only eating raw fruits and vegetables can lead us to being truly healthy.

Dr. Weil falls into the trap of stating that algae such as spirulina and chlorella are supplements when they are not. Spirulina and Chlorella did not earn the title of superfoods because they might be beneficial to one person, but not another. They earned that exalted title because they are the most perfect foods known, containing ideal compliments of amino acids (pre-digested proteins), carbohydrates and fats. A person could not only survive by exclusively eating these superfoods, they would be incredibly healthy doing so. Ideally, however, we should consume a broad array of raw foods in order to obtain optimal health, not limit them to certain food groups.

Spirulina and Chlorella are not supplements. Supplements are collections of vitamins, minerals, proteins and other dead nutrients. While their profile may look good on the back of the nutrition panel of their container, in reality these nutrients will not be assimilated by the body the way nutrients from raw foods will. There is no substitute fov what God provides for us by way of raw food nutrients, nor is the variety limited in any way. The foods that we know and regularly consume are but a slight fraction of the plethora of foods that are available worldwide.

Supplements are produced from extracts and concentrates, which are not alive. There is no place for true supplements in the world of Achieving Great Health. Spirulina and Chlorella are often referred to as supplements, even by prominent naturalists, but this is a misnomer. For instance, I eat 3 – 5 cloves of garlic each day. One could say I am supplementing my diet with them, but that does not mean that raw garlic should be referred to as a supplement. If you were to extract the oil or specific nutrients from garlic and consume it, then that would be considered a supplement. But when the food is consumed whole with nothing extracted from it, it is not a supplement.

When alga is harvested fresh, then either powdered or tableted, it is essentially unchanged from its original state and therefore must still be categorized as a food, not a supplement. Spirulina and Chlorella are whole foods and eating them is like eating a banana or apple or broccoli. You can use them to supplement your diet with the protein and other broad array of nutrients they possess, but they should always be called what they truly are: Whole Foods.

Dr. Weil also states: “They are good sources of chlorophyll, but there is little to no research supporting the claims made about the algae.”

Spirulina and Chlorella are excellent sources of chlorophyll, but that is like saying that garlic is a good source of fatty acids. Garlic has a vast array of incredible health properties beyond simply being a good source of fatty acids and so is true of Spirulina and Chlorella. They are the two most nutritionally dense and have the broadest array of nutrients of any foods known. I have written two books on Spirulina and Chlorella and of course have researched them extensively. My second book, Achieving Great Health, became a struggle for me to determine which studies not to include in my book because there are so many of them. The scientific research that has been done on Spirulina and Chlorella are scholarly, extensive and come from countries all over the world. It is astounding that a prominent physician such as Dr. Andrew Weil knows almost nothing about the two most important whole foods on the planet.

Replace Traditional Protein Sources with Spirulina and Chlorella

Friday, May 15th, 2009

In general, cooked-food vegetarians don't get enough protein in their diet, which is a major problem that can lead to fatigue and many other health problems. Often people will simply remove meat , fish, eggs and dairy from their diet and become a strict vegetarian or vegan. This is a big mistake because protein is essential to the body in every way since it is the building blocks of our cells. Raw foodists can get away with only eating fruits and vegetables, but not cooked foodists since cooking irrevocably changes plant protein structure in a detrimental way that renders it weakened, chemically changed and therefore much less useful to the body. A severe lack of protein in the body will lead to cachexia where the organs are robbed of protein in order to perform bodily functions similar to the way the bones are robbed of calcium for bodily needs, which leads to osteoporosis .

A Raw-food Diet provides the body with a sufficient, but not ideal amount of protein. The body cannot store protein and will easily rid itself of any excess protein when it is derived from raw foods, not cooked animal-food sources. Excessive animal protein , on the other hand, will lead to severe imbalances in the body, leading to ketosis , uremia and a host of other diseases.

Protein must be consumed with every meal in order for the food to properly digest and its nutrients to be efficiently extracted and absorbed by the body. Digestion does not require a large amount of protein. Rather, the key is that you consume high quality plant protein that has a broad array of amino acids that are in the correct ratio to one another. Spirulina and Chlorella fit the bill perfectly. Only 2 – 4 grams of Spirulina and Chlorella (1.2 – 2.4 grams of protein) are needed with each meal to fulfill the protein needs of proper digestion. To exceed that amount would only enhance algae's digestive and other nutritional components. Both cooked and raw foods are digested better and more nutrients are extracted from them when a sufficient amount of protein is present. This is especially true of plant protein such as that found in algae.

Without protein, bodily functions such as hormones and nutrient absorption stumble and thrash about without direction. This is why I refer to protein as the Great Regulator.

Oncologists commonly advise their cancer patients to avoid meat and dairy products because they encourage cancer by elevating certain protein levels in the body, which indicate that the cancer is thriving. If meat and dairy should be avoided once you have cancer, then avoiding them would also be a good preventative health measure. In general, allopathic (medical) doctors preach prevention in a rather watered down, tepid way, if at all, which seems befitting of an industry that could not be more wrongheaded and misguided about health and the cure for disease.

Animal protein that has been denatured by cooking is a great detriment to the body. The antibiotics , hormones and steroids that are injected into livestock can adversely affect the growth of children and destroy the friendly bacteria that the human body needs for digestion. Animal protein must be broken down into basic amino acids to be reformed into protein chains that can then be used by the human body. This is a laborious and inefficient process that loots the body of energy and resources rather than nutrifies it. The biggest culprit is meat.

Spirulina & Chlorella: First Foods of the Earth and the Foundation of Nutrition of Great Health

Bob's Biography
Additional Spirulina Information
Additional Chlorella Information

A building constructed from inferior materials is ready to collapse at any moment, if not from external then from within. The body built of inferior materials awaits the same fate. The basic elements of the human cell must be constructed from the exact nutrients it has been using over millions of years of evolution or it will fold under the attack of any disease. Detractors of algae dismiss it as pond scum, which is a laughable assertion stated out of shear ignorance. The nutritional content of Spirulina or Chlorella make them the most powerful foods in the world. No other foods could possibly compete with them. Of the nearly 70,000 species of algae that exist, most are quite nutritious. A few are toxic and a few are powerful nutraceuticals capable of supplying the body with nutrients unimagined by most other foods. A nutraceutical is any food that provides the body with the proper nutrition so the body can heal itself.

Spirulina and Chlorella are perfect whole foods, true superfoods . They have perfect compliments of protein (60%) carbohydrates (19%), fats (6%) bio-available minerals (8%). They are not extracts, concentrates or amalgams of vitamins and minerals that look good on paper such as the vitamin and mineral supplements that people generally believe to be healthy. In reality, the body does not absorb 90% of these vitamin supplements because they are dead, void of enzymes. On the other hand, eating Spirulina or Chlorella is like eating any other whole food such as a banana, apple or broccoli.

Algae are the oldest foods in the world. Fossil records show that Spirulina and Chlorella have existed for billions of years essentially unchanged for all that time. They have both developed strategies of survival against harshly unfavorable conditions such as drought, radiation and even strong man-made poisons that have driven many other plant organisms to extinction.

There are several different species of these two algae, however the ones that I refer to here are Spirulina Platensis and Chlorella Pyrenoidosa. Another Chlorella product found on the market is known as Chlorella Vulgaris, which is nutritionally inferior to its powerful cousin Pyrenoidosa. The alga found in swimming pools is a close cousin to chlorella vulgaris . It does not have the broad array of nutrients of Pyrenoidosa, its incredible fiber nor does anywhere near the same amount or quality of Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF). Don't be fooled by price, Chlorella Pyrenoidosa is worth the extra money and why it is considered the most powerful food in the world.

A tremendous amount of scientific research has been done on both Spirulina and Chlorella from universities and medical institutions from around the world. They have proven to be one of the best solutions world hunger problems. They are also used as feed for all kinds of live stock. Once tableted, they will last up to a year with refrigeration and even longer if vacuum-packed.

Which one should you take?

Even though the nutritional profile of Spirulina and Chlorella are quite similar they are completely different foods, as different as apples and oranges. Although many of the nutrients in these foods are the same, they will assimilate and benefit the body in different ways. This is also why we should attempt to get as many different types of foods into our diet as possible. The greater array of nutrients in any food, the more nutritious it is.

Spirulina is a nitrogen based blue green algae and has the predominant odor of seaweed. Chlorella is an oxygen based green algae that has the predominant odor of fresh grass. Chlorella gets its name from the high amount of chlorophyll in it, up to 10 times that of Spirulina which is itself quite high in chlorophyll. Chlorella belongs to a class of algae called chlorophyta.

Spirulina is an extremely high energy food, great before or after a workout and is very good for the treatment of arthritis. Chlorella is excellent for digestion, heavy-metal detoxification, and is a immune system builder. Therefore, the answer to the question as to which of these two algae should you take is that you should definitely have both of them in your diet.

Protein, the Great Regulator

Spirulina and Chlorella are complete proteins meaning they provide the body with the eight essential amino acids, yet they go much further. They are 60% protein in the form of amino acids that are in the right ratio to one another. There is a lot of confusion and misinformation about protein, how much protein is actually in certain foods and what the protein actually consists of. For instance, most people assume meat is comprised of 100% protein when it is only 22% protein on average. Meat only has eleven amino acids and is heavily weighted in only four of them, which means that the body is receiving a very lopsided version of protein. What the body needs is a broad array of amino acids that are in the correct proportion to one another such as Spirulina, Chlorella and even wheat grass. Wheat grass juice is only 24% protein (higher than meat) compared to over 60% for Spirulina and Chlorella, which is the highest amount of protein of any whole foods.

Dosages

How much to take. When to take it.

Chlorella: A maintenance dosage of Chlorella is about 3 – 5 grams per day. Although you will not see significant changes taking such a small amount of whole food, your body will be getting a broad array of nutrients unlike it has seen before. Since Chlorella is a detoxifying whole food, not a concentrate or extract, a person can eat as much as they desire without any fear of it becoming potentially toxic in any way.

Chlorella is best taken before a meal with probiotics, our friendly bacteria ( Acidophilus and Bifidus ). Chlorella causes probiotics to multiply at four times the rate of normal.

Maintenance Dosage: 3 – 5 grams/day
Significant Part of the Diet: 6 – 10 grams/day
Immune System Builder: 11 – 14 grams/day
Primary Source of Protein : 12 – 19 grams/day
Healing Purposes & Heavy Metal Detoxification: 20 – 30+ grams/day

Best before a meal to aid with digestion.

Spirulina: A maintenance dosage of Spirulina is 3 -- 5 grams per day. Although their nutritional profile may appear to be quite similar, Spirulina and Chlorella are completely different foods. Spirulina is great before a physical workout. I take 5 – 6 grams religiously before any kind of physical training. Stamina, endurance and recovery are significantly improved with Spirulina. After a strenuous workout where the body is pushed to its limits, an additional 10 – 20 grams should be taken during the following 24 hours to rebuild the body and muscle tissue that has been torn down.

Spirulina should also be taken 15 – 30 minutes before a meal to help prepare the stomach for proper digestion since it also helps accelerate the reproductive rate of probiotics.

Maintenance Dosage: 3 – 5 grams/day
Significant Part of the Diet: 6 – 10 grams/day
Immune System Builder: 11 – 14 grams/day
Primary Source of Protein : 12 – 19 grams/day
Healing Purposes: 20 – 25+ grams/day

Also great before a workout.

Seven Components of Great Health – No. 2: Spirulina and Chlorella

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Component 2: Introduce Spirulina and Chlorella to your diet

The most powerful foods on earth are Spirulina Pacifica and Chlorella Pyrenoidosa. They compliment one another in many ways because they are completely different foods with different nutrients. Spirulina is an extremely pure food, 95% digestible, extremely high in the Vitamin B-complex, iron, calcium and essential fatty acids such as Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), which is excellent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis or bursitis. Spirulina is an excellent food to consume before a workout because of the explosive energy it provides to the body.

Chlorella has incredible anti-cancer properties. Its unique fiber is great for the digestion, as well as heavy metal and synthetic toxin removal. It has large amounts of nucleic acids (RNA/DNA), which, along with amino acids (protein), are the building blocks of our cells. Chlorella can even be used topically on cuts, scrapes, infections, even serious wounds, as can Spirulina.

The second step in Achieving Great Health is to add these superfoods to your diet. Start slowly, gradually increasing them until you reach a dosage of at least eight grams of each daily. (See Appendix: Spirulina, Chlorella & Water Dosages.) You can never consume too much Spirulina and Chlorella as long as they are raw and their enzymes are intact. As you increase your dosage, gradually reduce your intake of protein from traditional sources, such as meat fish, eggs, soy and dairy products. Algae is best consumed with each meal because of its high protein content, the highest percentage of any foods known with 18 different amino acids that are in the proper ratio to one another. Protein must be consumed with everything you eat for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. Most vegetarians lack sufficient protein in their diet.

Great Health will be nearly impossible to achieve without these two powerful whole foods at the center of your diet.
