By Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

Here is my video of this topic. An algae product known as Cryptomonadales is grown in Taiwan and marketed throughout Asia, Australia and North America. The claims made about this strain of chlorella, such as how it is grown and what strain it actually is, are ridiculous. The algae that they say is grown is a strain known as Chlorella sorokiniana, which is named after the researcher who discovered it, Constantine Sorokin.

Chlorella sorokiniana is a thermopilic algae that thrives in warm water at temperatures of 100 – 107 degrees F (40 – 42 degrees C). Most Chlorella strains are grown at much lower temperatures, around 55 – 80 degrees F (15 – 22 degrees C). The biggest problem with Chlorella sorokiniana are the pheophorbides, chemical structures that are dangerous to our health if consumed in large quantities. Measured in milligrams as a percent of the food per grams with 60mg/100 grams being the limit allowed by law. Watershed Chlorella has a level of 27 – 30 mg pheophorbides. Chlorella sorokiniana has over 180 mg pheophorbides, well over the maximum allowable contamination level. Therefore, Chlorella sorokiniana cannot be sold for consumption alone but must be combined with other algae such as Spirulina in order to bring the pheophorbide to acceptable levels.

FEBICO, a Taiwan Chlorella producer, sells a product such as this called Sorokina, which combines Chlorella sorokiniana, spirulina and C. Cohnii, a red algae which is a source of DHA and other omega 3 and 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. FEBICO makes the same claims about their product as the producers of cryptomonadales, The International Chlorella Company of Taiwan, and that is that it contains Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors (PPARs) and Poly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs). Both these nutritional claims are true.

Chlorella pyrenoidosa contains Alpha Linolenlic Acid (ALA), another PUFA that that is an essential nutrient, meaning that it is required by body and must be consumed since the body cannot produce it.

Cryptomonadales claim: “Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptors Crypto Power™ Chlorella Cryptomonadales® Chlorella Sorokiniana The only known algae in the world containing significant amounts of all three naturally occurring Alpha, Beta, and Gamma PPARs.”

This is a claim that FEBICO also makes with its Sorokina product because Chlorella sorokiniana contains both ALA and Beta linolenic acid (BLA), however only spirulina has gamma linolenic acid (GLA). The claim by the producers of cryptomonadales that they have combined Chlorella sorokiniana with Spirulina plantenis into one strain of algae is completely false because this is simply not possible. Spirulina is not an algae, but rather a cyanobacteria (blue bacteria) that is both animal and vegetable since it exhibits both characteristics regarding its biological classification. The blue in spirulina is phycocyanin, a powerful antioxidant. Phyco means algae and cyanin means blue. But Spirulina does not have a nucleus and therefore cannot be classified a plant and why it is classified as a cyanobacterium, or blue bacteria.

The reason this is important is because we know that it is impossible to cross a plant with an animal, in this case a bacteria with an algae. It would be like crossing a dog with a strain of corn. There has been speculation that they have gene-spliced these two together, fusing them into a new species. If that is true then it is a result of genetic modification (GMO), commonly known as franken-food because it is a food that has been tinkered with by man. When man tinkers with nature rather than mold it to his benefit, things tend to go wrong. That is meaning of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, that tinkering with nature will result in a catastrophe.

What the producers of cryptomonadales fail to produce is a Certificate of Analysis (COA). A COA is provided with every batch of chlorella and spirulina that is produced. Algae products are not permitted to be sold without a COA, which is true of Herbal Extracts such as Ginkgo Biloba. I would never purchase and/or sell a chlorella that did not have a COA and complete nutritional analysis such as this one. Chlorella and Spirulina companies routinely refuse to offer a COA to the public, which is unfortunate since it is the COA that the algae industry rests its case on. In the case of cryptomonadales it is even more imperative that a COA is offered to anyone who asks for it since they claim to have created a whole new strain of algae. Until now, they have refused to release a COA of cryptomonadales. And just to be clear, an analysis of what nutrients are in cryptomonadales is not a COA. A COA must be attached to a particular batch of algae that is produced and when it was produced.

The producer does not sell cryptomonadales® Chlorella Sorokiniana in powder form, which is quite odd since many people prefer to take chlorella and Spirulina in powder form rather than tablets. If they were to release cryptomonadales in powder form their product could be analyzed and evaluated by a third party such as the Japan Food Research Laboratories, Tokyo, Japan, one of several companies capable of conducting such an objective, independent and reliable analysis.

My opinion is that Cryptomonadales® Chlorella Sorokiniana is a combination of Chlolrella sorokiniana and Spirulina plantenis, separate powders in tablet form and not a new strain of algae as the producers claim. Spirulina must be combined with Chlorella sorokiniana in order to bring the pheophorbides down to acceptable levels, below 60mg/100 gram. However, we don’t know what those levels are because they won’t publish their COA. Other than the complete array of PUFAs and PPARs (alpha, beta and gamma linenloic acids), Cryptomonadales does not have much of an advantage over other forms chlorella such as Chlorella pyrenoidosa and Chlorella vulgarius. I want to be clear that I have nothing against Cryptomonadales® Chlorella Sorokiniana. It is a good health product to consume, but the producers are misrepresenting what it is and how it is produced. They are being deliberately deceptive about their own product in order to sell more of their product and market it as being the latest technology and innovations in the world of health. The truth is that this kind of deliberate misrepresentation is hurting the algae industry because it causes confusion. My question is that why is there has not been more calls from within the scientific community

I invite them to provide the world with evidence that they have indeed created a new strain of algae by combining a bacterium (Spirulina) with a plant (Chlorella). Until now, they have offered no scientific or photographic evidence that their claims are indeed true. Therefore, the untenable claims made by the producers of Cryptomonadales are perpetrating a hoax by claiming that they have invented a new strain of algae in my opinion.

NatureBuilt Products has release Chlorella combined with Bacopa Extract (aka brahmi) in tablet. It is the first product of its kind on the market, Chlorella combined with Bacopa in tablet form. Bacopa (focus, concentration) is one of three “Brain Herbs” we have talking about at the Watershed Wellness Center for 2 years now. Mucuna (HGH, Dopamine, Melatonine) and Ginkgo Biloba (memory) are the other two. There are no binders or fillers in the tablets, which are 90% chlorella and 10% Bacopa Extract with 53% concentrated Bacocides, which is the chemical that helps improve concentration and memory.

I personally take Bacopa everyday in tablet form combined with Chlorella. I don’t take Bacopa powder by itself because the taste is awful. So thank God for tablets. Same is true of Ginkgo Biloba which is even worse tasting than Bacopa. Mucuna I take every night before I go to bed because the brain produces Human Growth Hormone while we are sleeping. This wakes up the pineal gland in the center of the brain. When it comes to longevity and spiritual balance it’s all about the pineal gland.

Chlorella is a green algae and the Most Powerful Wholefood known. It contains the highest amount of Protein, Chlorophyll and Nucleic Acids of any food. It is also a food that anyone can safely consume. BACOPA is documented to improve memory and general mental abilities, including concentration and mental deficiencies. It is a sedative that helps relieve anxiety, stress and insomnia. Bacopa is a powerful antioxidant. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties. The advantage of combining a concentrated herb such as BACOPA with a complete food such as CHLORELLA is that the protein allows the body to absorb and utilize the herb much more safely and effectively.

Far more effective methods of opening Chlorella’s cell wall have been developed since the 1970’s. The state-of-the-art Pressure-Release® method used by our manufacturer is an entirely new approach to opening Chlorella’s cell wall. As the Chlorella cells pass through the specially designed Pressure-Release® chamber they rupture, or crack open, due to the sudden and extreme changes in pressure. There are several advantages to the Pressure-Release® technique over that of the Dyno®-Mill process. First, and most importantly, nothing comes in contact with the Chlorella cells, therefore the process is 100% natural and organic. The nutrients of the Chlorella cells are now available to be digested by the body. Second, the Chlorella cells are not exposed to heavy metals from glass or other impurities that may be present within the glass. And since they have not been pulverized, but rather only pulverized as can be seen in Examples 1 and 2, their unique nutrients remain in tact. Thirdly, oxidation and nutrient degradation are significantly reduced when using the Pressure-Release® method. You can see a significant difference between a Pressure-Release® processed Chlorella cell and one that has not be processed, or cracked open, in the photo to the right. And the digestibility of the Chlorella is just as high using the Pressure-Release® technique as it is using the Dyno®-Mill process.

Bob McCauley

Much has been said about how the cell wall of Chlorella pyrenoidosa is cracked or opened. Chlorella is a green algae whose outer cell wall is composed of thick layers of dietary fiber that is excellent for digestion and binds with heavy metals and other synthetic toxins and removes them from the body.

“Chlorella’s cell wall is comprised of 3 layers. The middle layer contains the thickest cellulose microfibrils. The outer layer is extremely resistant to tearing or breakage. The characteristics of this fiber are unique to Chlorella and why it is so important that we consistently have Chlorella in our diet because it is not found in any other food source. Even dead Chlorella has the ability to soak up toxins after it has bonded with them. ”

From Achieving Great Health by Bob McCauley

This fiber that surrounds the cells must be cracked or broken so that the nutrients inside can be completely absorbed by the body. If the Chlorella cell is not opened, then only a small amount of nutrients would be available to the body. All Chlorella that is imported into the United States must be cracked or open cell according to FDA regulations.

The Antiquated Method

The Dyno®-Mill technique that is used to open Chlorella’s cell wall was first developed in Japan in the mid-1970’s. This technology was originally developed for use in the meat industry and has subsequently been used in other food industries including Chlorella production. The use of Dyno®-Mill techniques in Chlorella production was indeed breakthrough technology for its time since no other technology had been developed that effectively broke open Chlorella’s thick cell wall.

The Dyno®-Mill process uses thousands of very small glass beads (2 mm in diameter) such as those pictured here that are placed in a drum with the Chlorella and spun together for several minutes. It is an effective way to open the Chlorella cell wall. However, the Chlorella cells are exposed to potential lead and other contamination from the glass beads that are used in the process, especially if some of the glass beads are cracked or broken. This milling process, which can be compared to milling wheat into flour, pulverizes the Chlorella cell rather than just gently cracking it open. When the Chlorella cell is pulverized it immediately becomes susceptible to oxidation, which leads to degradation of its nutrients. The Dyno®-Mill process also destroys the cell’s membrane, chloroplast, mitochondria and nucleus. The main problem with this archaic method of opening Chlorella’s cell wall is that the scrambling of its nutrients significantly decrease its self-life, which is critical with regard to the marketing, nutritional integrity and consumption of Chlorella.

A Superior Method of Opening Chlorella Cell Wall

Processing Chlorella using Pressure-Release® technology extends the shelf-life and nutritional integrity of Chlorella significantly.

We are under the false impression that health is complex and therefore must be beyond our grasp. Many of us believe we are eating healthily when in fact we are not. Faux health is feeling good while living with the knowledge that you are declining and it is only a matter of time before disease invades your body. Health is simple to understand, but it is not easy to follow.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:29 [NIV]
We must control our appetite for the foods and tastes we crave and have become accustomed to eating over many years. We must not do this for ourselves, but for God and the glorification of His temple, our body.

His word, prayer, meditation, reading scripture, service and work. For a believer, a day spent earnestly working is a day spent with God. The environment for that is best created when we live in the now, the present moment and when we live in a way that does not invite disease.

I almost subtitled this book A Christian Health Revolution because it is a truly revolutionary way to view health and how we ought to view the temple, our body, that God has given us. The ideas in this book will change your view of how health is actually obtained. It will challenge your understanding of your body and your obligation to honor it. It will cause you to waken your obligation to honor one of God’s most precise gifts, your body. Whether you are Christian or not, you will never think of yourself, your life and body in the same way after reading this book.

Honoring the Temple of God and the health protocol explained in this book is the next revolution in Christianity. This revolution concerns the recognition that the temple of God is within us because our body literally is a temple of God. And it is a far more important temple than one built of wood, steel and brick.
More than anything I would love to hear your comments whether you are Christian or not. Send them to bob@watershed.net

The Watershed Wellness Center, originally The Watershed, began in the bottled water business in 1993. Owner, Bob McCauley, CNC, MH, has written four books on natural health. They include Confessions of a Body Builder, Achieving Great Health, The Miraculous Properties of Ionized Water and Honoring the Temple of God – A Christian Health Perspective. WWC has become one of the largest importers of water ionizers and chlorella in the United States. Bob McCauley is a pioneer the water ionizer industry, having written the definitive book on ionized water.

McCauley is a vegan (someone who does not eat any meat, fish, eggs or dairy products) who promotes the use of spirulina and chlorella for our protein instead of animal sources. Spirulina and Chlorella are the most powerful superfoods known. They are complete foods with protein, carbohydrates and fat that are the most nutrient dense foods known. They also have the broadest array of nutrients of any foods.

In 15 years of service, the WWC has labored hard to bring awareness about ionized water, spirulina and chlorella to the average person who may or may not be interested in natural health. The WWC also promotes angstrom minerals, probiotics and herbal extracts. They also encourage that people move to a diet consisting mainly of raw fruits and vegetables. “The Body is Capable of Healing Any Disease” is the mantra they have operated by for all years they have been in business.

The WWC is located in Lansing, MI. Their website is www.watershed.net. They can be contacted at info@watershed.net or call 1-888-826-4448.

Regardless of their age, anyone can have the body they had when they were in their twenties. At that age, most of us are physically and mentally in our prime. Physical decline is inevitable and starts in your thirties only if you are a cooked foodist. Physical decline only happens to a raw foodist if they never exercise and even then the decline will not lead to disease, but rather to physical atrophy.

Who is behind the Water Ionizer “Comparison” websites?

A plethora of websites have sprung up on the internet that do nothing but compare water ionizers that are sold by various companies. They are professionally done and easy to navigate. But who is behind these comparison sites? Why would anyone spend the money to produce a website that only compares water ionizers and doesn’t sell one themselves? The interesting thing is each of these “objective” websites has determined that a particular model or manufacturer is the best water ionizer on the market. I cannot say I have ever seen these types of comparison websites for any other product on the market. These “objective” websites are anything but what they appear to be. Any open and honest company or individual will allow you to see who they are by registering their website in their name.

There is a way to know if the website you are viewing is actually an objective third party or another water ionizer company deceptively promoting their own product while attempting to appear to be objective. To find out who owns a website search for them on Network Solutions at http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp. Type in any website and it will tell you who owns it and give their contact information. You will notice that all the “objective water ionizer review websites” are registered anonymously by proxy, meaning that they are registered through a third party. In short, they are hiding who they are because they are not being truthful about their identity. They are not in any way objective. When you look at us at the Watershed Wellness Center www.watershed.net you will find that our website is registered by our company’s president, Bob McCauley.
