Quora Question: Why are vegans so preachy?
I’m a vegan and I’m not “preachy”. First, you can’t agitate and persuade people at the same time. I’m a Catholic and I’ve seen Christians on the street who want to “convert” me to the “true faith” because I haven’t checked all the right boxes on their “salvation clipboard”. As a Christian, I like what they are doing and agree with them. But they are agitating me so much I want to disagree with them even though I agree with them. Why? They are getting me upset by trying to tell me how to worship, how to think, etc. What’s next, how to hold my fork when I eat.
If you are trying to get someone to starting eat healthy, the last thing you want to tell them is that they are bad people for eating animals. Essentially you are attempting to shame them into doing something they may or may not want to hear. In the end, either you will explain why you should not kill and eat animals and they will listen and follow you or they won’t. Shaming them, or preaching to them, is not going to have much of an impact.
Me personally, I never preach. I could care less if someone want to eat dead animal carcass.
