Does Spirulina Expire?
Yes. If it’s well sealed, vacuum packed, then it will last about 3 years. After that, the chlorophyll breaks down the and the spirulina “turns blue”. Actually, the green chlorophyll has disappeared. What you see then is the phycocyanin – a blue antioxidant that is unique to spirulina. It is still okay to consume, it’s just not as nutritious as it once was.
