Both Spirulina and Chlorella are food therefore there is no need to consider them food substitutes. In fact, they are the two most powerful foods known. Nothing comes close. They are the only two foods you can live on exclusively and get all your essential nutrients. There are many foods that you can survive on, but none that will provide you with all the nutrients you need to live a healthy life.
I raised my two boys on spirulina and chlorella. They both ran track and cross country and were top runners on their teams.

Wei Ying-chung, the former chairman of Ting Hsin Oil and Fat Industrial Co and Wei Chuan Foods Corp was found guilty of fraud in a tainted oil scandal exposed in 2013. He was also the current Managing Director of Taiwan Good Manufacturing Practices “GMP” since 2011 up to and through the entire scandal. When the Taiwan FDA discovered that the head of Good Manufacturing Practices in Taiwan owned factories that were deliberately selling tainted, recycled cooking oil to the pubic. In fact, the oil quite popular because of it’s low price and was used throughout Taiwan by million of Taiwanese people. Millions of Taiwanese people who trusted that the oil they were purchasing was the best quality. It was completely adulterated and rancid oil. Wei Ying-chung served only two-years in prison for his horrendous crime of poisoning millions of people, victims of his greed while ruining the reputation of GMP Taiwan. GMP literally became a joke to the Taiwanese food industry. The Taiwanese people could not trust their own food supply, meaning the products they found on their own shelves. In short, the fox was guarding the hen house. Several other officials of the Wei Chuan Foods Corp were also imprisoned.
Taiwan subsequently decided to establish an Association that would be better, more thorough, more accountable with higher than GMP called the Taiwan Quality Food Association. It also works more closely with Taiwan FDA, which failed in their regulatory oversight in this matter.
GMP certification has officially been transferred to and managed by TQF (Taiwan Quality Food) Association from Industrial Development Bureau of Ministry of Economic Affair (IDB, MOEA) since June 24th 2015. In the meantime, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in Taiwan has been improved and renamed as the TQF product certification scheme. TQF is a food safety and quality certification system that incorporates the accreditation surveillance by TAF (Taiwan Accreditation Foundation), a globally recognized accreditation body in Taiwan. Products are certified against the TQF specifications and standards in accordance with the food safety fundamentals (GHP and GMP) and the food safety management plan, the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point). TQF certificate and logo can then be issued to the suppliers in compliance of conformity assessments by TQF recognized certification bodies which are accredited in regard to ISO/IEC 17065. On Oct. 21, 2014, prosecutors indicted Wei, former Ting Hsin Oil and Fat president Chang Mei-feng (常梅峰) and former Wei Chuan president Chang Chiao-hua (張教華), along with several others, on charges of fraud, forgery and violations of food regulations.
Wei was originally sentenced to four years in prison by the Taipei District Court in a first trial in March last year, during which Chang was acquitted and the others were given prison terms ranging from five months to 46 months.

The biggest myth that has been perpetuated through the centuries and remains well established to this day is that a diet comprised mostly of cooked foods is healthy. 99% of the population will tell you that some amount of cooked foods is required for us to be healthy, but they are wrong. We’re also misinformed that many foods require cooking to release their nutrients. Cooking can increase the potency, character and effectiveness of certain nutrients. However, any gain we may get by increasing the bioavailability of certain nutrients in the food will be more than offset by the destruction of its all-important enzymes and thus its rejuvenative powers.
Cooking any food transforms it from an alkaline to an acid substance. Lycopene, an immune booster found in tomatoes, is a perfect example of this. Lycopene is found in greater concentration after heating tomatoes above 120°F. But the overall detriment to the tomato is not worth the extra lycopene the body may absorb from it. Also, the smaller amount of lycopene will be absorbed more efficiently by the body from a raw tomato than the larger amount of lycopene found in the cooked tomato. This is essentially true of any food once it has been cooked.
When we eat cooked foods, the body reacts to them as it would to any foreign invader such as a virus, poison or bacterial infection by producing white blood cells called leukocytes, which are meant to attack and destroy any invader. Studies on this phenomenon, which is known as digestive leukocytosis, were done in Switzerland in 1930.[i] White blood cell production is an immune response that also occurs in the body due to poisoning, trauma or infection. Highly processed, homogenized, pasteurized foods or those with chemical preservatives produced the strongest reaction by the body, i.e. the highest production of white blood cells.
The reason the body reacts this way is that since cooked foods are dead, the body does not recognize them because they are lacking enzymes and their natural chemical structure has been altered beyond recognition by heat. This effect was renamed pathological leukocytosis because of the way the body reacts to highly denatured, chemically altered foods. Pathological refers to disease because the production of white blood cells is one of the body’s reactions to invaders or conditions that may lead to disease. Digestive leukocytosis did not occur at all in test subjects who ate raw foods, which were labeled “friendly foods” by the researchers. This reaction happens only when we consume substances that simply don’t belong in the body. This is one of the reasons why eating cooked foods drains our energy. It is direct evidence that the body recognizes cooked foods as toxins or an infection that must be attacked and eradicated before they do damage to the body.

How much chlorella and spirulina would you need to take to consume them exclusively on their own? Thanks, Joe O.
My response:
Good question! That would depend on how long you were going to do that for? I fasted on 50 grams of chlorella & spirulina for 10 days and lost around 8 lb. I felt great. However, if I wanted to live on them long term you would need to take a lot more, probably around 200 – 300 grams a day. Chlorella and spirulina are the only two foods on earth that you can live on exclusively and know you are getting ALL your basic nutritional needs.
Ideally, you want to eat as great a variety of foods in your diet as possible since every foods contains unique enzymes and nutrients. However, if you cook a food its enzymes will be destroyed, which is why I only eat raw fruits and vegetables. No other food contains the nutrients that are contained in a lemon, or garlic, or an apple, etc. But as survival foods, nothing beats Chlorella and Spirulina, the two most powerful foods on earth.

If you include Chlorella and Spirulina, which are 60% protein, then yes, absolutely children should be raised vegan or “strict vegetarian”. I have two healthy boys that ran track and CC in high school, now in their 20’s. Both are strong and haven’t eaten meat in 20 years. One of them can bench 245 lb.

My favorite herb of all time is Mucuna pruriens. This is because it has L-Dopa, an amino acid that creates several brain chemicals that essential for sleep patterns, mood enhancement and longevity.
More importantly, L-Dopa produces Human Growth Hormone (HGH) in the brain. HGH is the number one thing we require if we expect to remain young and vibrant, therefore it becomes increasingly important as we age. HGH is primarily produced by the pituitary gland in the brain, however, by 50 years of age the average person has stopped producing it. Angstrom Indium is useful for the pineal gland, which is itself the key to longevity. Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF or Chlorella Extract) contains high amounts of nucleic acids that are the blue prints to the cells. Without them, the cell cannot replicate itself properly and evermore diminished copies of our cells are produced.

Dietitians are trained by the medical establishment which teaches them to eat from the animal world, eat cooked foods which are nutritionally dead. They follow the FDA Food pyramid which is a joke. Dietitians are clueless about health, and what leads to heath and what leads to disease. Eat the foods they recommend you eat and diseases will surely be result.
These are the same foods that are found on their plates day in and day out, which is why Dietitians end up with all the same diseases that everyone else in the medical establishment does, and everyone else in our society for that matter. Too many vegans are militant about not eating animals. You can’t agitate and persuade at the same time.
I became a vegetarian in 1980, meaning I did not eat meat, but I did eat eggs, fish and dairy. This is where I got my protein along with beans and grains. 18 years later I discovered chlorella and spirulina, two types of algae and the most powerful foods on earth. They are 60% protein therefore once I found the perfect protein source I stopped eating fish, eggs and dairy since they were no longer necessary for a food source. At that point, the only reason I would eat them is for the taste.
Everything you put into your body, everything you eat, is exclusively psychological. It’s all in your mind. You eat the foods you like the taste of and are in the habit of eating. What belongs in the body from a health standpoint are raw fruits and vegetables. Period.

Quietly, several years ago, the species name of Chlorella pyrenoidosa was changed to Chlorella sorokiniana, which no one can pronounce. Why did they do this? When I investigated the reason I was stunned and angry, more like infuriated. Sorokin is the name of one of the researchers who studied chlorella in the 1950’s and 60’s. So why not name it after him? The species should describe the plant. Right? Well, not when it comes to chlorella apparently. You have Eurycoma longifolia, better known as Tongkat Ali, which produces testosterone in the body. Eurycoma is a small genus of three or four species of flowering plants in the family Simaroubaceae, native to tropical southeastern Asia. Longifolia refers to the long leaves that it has.
