Soy: One of the Worst “Foods” Commonly Consumed

by Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

“Health foods make promises that only the Second Coming could fulfill.” ~ Mason Cooley

One of the biggest mistakes a lot of vegetarians make is to consume soy.  When I first became a vegetarian in 1980, I went to a vegetarian cooking class at Lansing Community College.  The woman who taught was a fanatic about vegetarianism and was completely adamant about the necessity that vegetarians get their protein from soy.  She referred to it as a “near perfect food”.  I bought into that for a long time, but luckily did not consume a lot of soy in the following years.  What soy I did consume was a form of fermented soy called tempe.

Much has been promised to us from soybeans in the way of health.  Proponents claim that soy is a near perfect food with a large array of amino acids and other nutrients.  Soybeans are approximately 35% protein, only 58% that of Spirulina and Chlorella. Spirulina and Chlorella are five times easier to digest than meat, fish, eggs, dairy and soy protein.[i] Soy is rarely consumed raw unless it is sprouted.  Nearly all soybeans are eaten after they are processed into tofu, textured protein or fermented into foods such as tempeh.  Once you have cooked or processed any food, you have altered its natural chemical structure.  Heat is a chemical reagent that radically alters anything it comes in contact with.

Soy contains goitrogens, which block the synthesis of thyroid hormones and disrupt the assimilation of iodine.  Without iodine, the thyroid cannot regulate the body’s metabolism, which can lead to obesity, or the opposite.  Consuming fluoride will also interfere with the uptake of iodine, and consequently our metabolism.

Soy contains soyatoxin, phytates, protease inhibitors, oxalates – all of which interfere with the enzymes needed to digest protein.

Soy contains Trypsin Inhibitors: Trypsin allows for the digestion of protein.  Haemagglutinin and trypsin are growth inhibitors.

Soy contains Phytic Acid (phytate): Highest of any plant.  Inhibits the uptake of minerals into the body, such as calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

The energy footprint of soy is unlike any other food we commonly consume.  All raw foods contain negatively spinning ions, which are advantageous to the body.  However, soy contains positively spinning ions, which are counter-productive to our health, as are all positively charged particles.

There are plenty of other problems with soy and its negative effects on the body, such as it produces a lot of gas for many who consume it.  Other digestive problems often disappear when soy is removed from their diet, including infants.  Processed soy products are rich in phytohemaglutinin (PHG),[ii] a glue-like substance that unbalances the body chemistry, slows circulation and thickens the blood, numbing the immune and nervous systems.  Enzyme inhibitors found in soy interfere with the action of trypsin, a digestive enzyme that breaks down protein.  Soy also contains goitrogens, which suppress thyroid functions; phytic acid, which can block the absorption of essential minerals such as calcium, copper, magnesium, iron and zinc in the intestinal tract.[iii]

The high amount of manganese found in soy-based infant formulas, 200 times that of breast milk, can cause brain damage in babies and a slowing of brain functions in children.  One study concluded that the last thing women should do to prevent breast cancer is to consume soy.[iv] Another study showed accelerated brain aging in those who regularly consumed soy.[v] Women who are pregnant should avoid soy because of the risk of breast cancer.[vi] Soy has also been linked to pancreatic cancer.[vii] Soy can slow sexual performance because isoflavones interfere with estrogen function.[viii] It contains isoflavones genistein and daidzein which mimic estrogen.  They disrupt estrogen and glandular production. In one major study, Asian men who ate tofu increased their chances of getting Alzheimer’s Disease.[ix]

Although it is quite common, the consumption throughout Asia is highly overestimated.  The soy products they do eat tend to be fermented, which is less harmful.  There is no history of soy being consumed for health reasons anywhere in the world until the last half of the Twentieth Century.

The soy craze has been deliberately fueled by corporate propaganda that promotes commercial interests rather than health.  75% of all soy based products found on the market have been derived from genetically modified soybeans, some that have been crossed with nuts and other foods that cause tremendous allergic reactions in people.

Soy can be used as a transition food to move away from meat and other animal protein to plant protein, that of Spirulina and Chlorella. But once that bridge has been crossed, it must be burned and soy should be completely avoided.

Chicago Raw – Super Rawlicious Deserts and They Treated Me Like A Prince

By Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

I spoke  in April 2011 at a couple of Raw Food Restaurants in Chicago.  One was on the subject of Radiation Removal from the body and the other was the Differences Between Me and Other Raw Foodists.  The later talk was given at a raw restaurant call Chicago Raw.  They’re in the French Market in ChiTown, which houses a variety of vendors offering a plethora of upscale items from chocolates, to wine, to cheese stores, and of course a raw restaurant.   Wow, great food and two wonder women who run it, Polly and Carole.

I talked for 40 minutes then took questions.  There are a few junk foods sold at the French Market, including hot dog carts, cheese stands, and others.  A woman with a giant spray of french fries sat down and the back and started complain about me stating that I, and others like me, wanted to “tell people what to eat”.  I didn’t hear any of it, but was told about it later.  I have been accused of this in the past, but it simply is not true.  I don’t want to tell anyone what to eat, I only want to inform people what is healthy for them and what is not.  What they do with that information is their business, not mine.  I’m the last guy in the world who wants to tell you what to eat, but the first guy in the world to tell people what’s healthy.

One of the ladies is a raw foodist from Luxembourg!  Luxembourg only has three raw foodist and one lives in Chicago!  Who’d a thunk it!  Enjoy great food at Chicago Raw.   You won’t be disappointed.

“Calling the rest of the world unclean when your own temple has been defiled . . . “

By Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

A comment came to me:

Did I read correctly that you eat only raw foods and do not cook anything? Rice, pasta, potatoes???

I have long noticed the excessive number of fat people in church and have always struggled with the  way they look down on the rest of humanity, but somehow can’t even see themselves in the mirror. Calling the rest of the world unclean when your own temple has been defiled through years of gluttony and food addiction takes a lot of nerve.

If eating meat, fried potatoes and a Reeses peanut butter cup is considered toxic and defiling of God’s temple, are we going to all have to eat exactly like you to make God happy or is there a balance between feasting and fasting. No more beer – no more coffee if we really want to live in heaven properly???

Please don’t ever think that I am trying to be a smart ass. I really am trying to sort all this stuff out for myself. The two primary warnings to the gentile were to abstain from sexual immorality and don’t drink blood. Whatever food you had or ate was left up to your own conciense before God. The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of peace love and righteousness in the Holy Spirit. Proverbs does say that the sluggard does not roast his prey. I think God definitely hates lazy people far more than meat eaters.

I’ll sign off for now.

Peace my friend,

Wayne

My response was:

Ideally, we should only eat the way I suggest we do in my book, Honoring the Temple of God.   How close do the best Christians live compared to the sinless life that Jesus led?  Not close.  But they are much closer than the average person who knows nothing about God.

I think monks live closest to the austere life of Jesus, and yet they are so far.  And they know nothing about my health philosophy, so even they have a long way to go in that regard.

Another point is that fresh, homemade cooked food is one thing, McDonalds and Twinkies are another.  The later is true garbage while homemade cooked is so much healthier.  But raw is the best and I try to eat as much raw foods, and as little cooked foods, as I can manage.  Raw Foods are 95% of my diet and it is really hard to do.  It took me years to get here.  And I primarily do it to honor the temple that God has given me.

Knowing what I know about diet and health I felt I had no choice.  Eat as raw as you can and sin the least amount that you can.  Both honor God in their own way.

Must we be pure to get to heaven?  Must we be sinless and 100% raw?  If so, then none of us will get there.  Buddha taught moderation in all things.  I admire that greatly.  Like monks who live a life of austerity, we must strive as best we can to be pure of heart and intent.

Blessings,

Bob

President John F. Kennedy: Junk Food Junkie

by Bob McCauley, CMC, MH

Kennedy’s Bloated Face Due to Steroid Use

Even if he hadn’t been assassinated in 1963, President John Kennedy would not have lived to be an old man if he would have continued with the diet he had apparently been raised on, and which continued into adulthood.

I watched a documentary on The History Channel on the Kennedy family that highlighted their home movies.  I always knew that President Kennedy had health challenges throughout his life, but my understanding was that it was due to injuries.  Watching the documentary I learned that Jack had colitis, hypothyroidism, diathesis, and other serious digestive problems that plagued him his entire his life.  The seriousness of these problems was kept from the public.   JFK’s mother remembered him as “a very, very sick little boy”.  He was placed on a strict diet of rice and potatoes at one point for his Colitis.  He suffered at least one episode of jaundice as a youth, which was quite serious at the time.   He had chronic back problems, due to osteoporosis which resulted in several operations and required medications for chronic pain.  He severely injured his back before entering WWII while playing football.  JFK was prone to uncounted injuries because his frail body could not handle them, nor repair itself from them.

All this revolved around a poor diet.  He liked lamb chops, steak, baked chicken and turkey (white meat) and mashed potatoes. He also was fond of seafood and baked beans. According to chefs who worked in the White House, President Kennedy loved corn muffins and rich French food.  All that doesn’t sound so bad, but the original source of all diseases are digestive issues and all digestive issues are a result of the wrong diet.  Whatever JFK was eating, it wasn’t remotely healthy.  Ask Paul Nison who had the same kinds of digestive issues, Crone’s Disease and Colitis.  Paul told me that before he found veganism and eventually the raw food diet he was living on the worse diet of anyone he knew.  Pure junk is what Paul lived on.  Now Paul is in terrific health, having lived on the raw food diet for 15 years.  I grew up eating a lot of junk, then found “health foods” when I was 18, became vegetarian at 22, and finally become a raw food vegan at 41.  At 41 was when I started reversing the aging processes and really began to enjoy true health.  At 54, I’m still improving and always will be.  Health is a journey, not a destination.

Here is a list of the drugs JFK was on during his presidency, many of which were capable of clouding his judgment and mental faculties:

cortisone [injected] Cortisol has profound psychological effects. At one extreme, “steroid psychosis” can result. At the other, a profound sensation of well-being can occur. In between, the effects are more difficult to characterize.
cortisone [oral]
lomotil For diarrhea. Contains anti-cholinergic compounds, which, in toxic doses, can make someone constantly angry and/or looney.
paregoric For diarrhea. Contains opium. Mentation is probably unaffected if used in reasonable doses, but Kenndey was taking at least 3 medications for diarrhea, suggesting that doses were high.
phenobarbital A classic “downer”
testosterone Kennedy’s “bull-like” libido was a side effect of the huge amount of testosterone he took daily.  His cholesterol level was reportedly 410.
trasentine An anti-diarrhea medication. There is very little published about this drug. Side effects include giddiness and euphoria.
Tuinal A mixture of secobarbital and amobarbital Kennedy used to help him sleep. Amobarbital is better known as Amytal, one of the more common “truth serum” drugs.
amphetamines Post and Robins, writing in 1993, thought it was “highly suggestive” that Kennedy took amphetamines while President, but considered it unproven . The recent Atlantic article states definitively that Kennedy received injections of amphetamines and painkillers from “Dr. Feelgood,” a.k.a. Max Jacobson. Kennedy dismissed concerns about the injections, saying, “I don’t care if it’s horse piss. It works.” Jacobson’s medical license was revoked in 1975. Previously, in 1969, all controlled substances in his possession were confiscated by the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

The photo above is the classic JFK, the one the world knows better than any other.  But it is a distortion of what JFK really looked like.  The face you see in that photo is a that of a man who has used steroids for auto-immune polyendocrine syndrome type II (APS II), as well as Coloitis and Celiac Disease.  This was most likely responsible for his year round tan and bloated face.  He took testosterone every day of his presidency, which led to further imbalances in his body and changed his appearance significantly.

We rarely see the gaunt look that was natural to John F. Kennedy.  The photo on the left is what Kennedy looked like before he went on steroids.  He was markedly thinner, almost gaunt, mainly because his body was not getting enough nutrients and the nutrients he was getting throughout his life were substandard.

What is so ironic about all this is that the Kennedy family was extremely wealthy that certainly had access to the finest food available, but chose not to utilize them I’m sure out of ignorance.  The rich may be immune to many things but sickness and disease is not one of them.  When the richest, most powerful men and women on earth get sick with cancer or other deadly diseases they succumb to those ills no differently than the poorest who live on the streets.  They only spend their last days and die in more comfortable surroundings.

It can be said that the Raw Food Diet (fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds) is the best diet available for any man, any woman, any age, any net worth.  Period.

Ionized Water and Stomach Acid

by Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

A question commonly asked about Ionized Water is how can the alkalinity of Ionized Water survive stomach acid.  Digestive enzymes and stomach acid, hydrochloric acid (HCL), are produced by the body as we chew our food.  Once we stop eating, the HCL dissipates in the stomach and no more should be produced until the next time we eat.  Many people are under the mistaken notion that the pH of the human stomach is always at a pH of 2.5 – 3.0.  In fact, when we are not eating the pH of the stomach should be around pH 4.0 – 5.0.  Temporarily changing the pH of the stomach to pH 6.0 or higher is not harmful to the body.

If we assume that drinking ionized water will raise the pH of the stomach higher than it should be or that Ionized Water will be neutralized by our stomach acid, then we must also assume that many alkaline foods that we eat will do the same thing.  A lot of fruit tends to have a high pH, therefore it is not uncommon for the stomach to have alkaline foods introduced into it.  What is important to consider is the overall effect of foods and other substances that we put into the body.  If our diet is mainly comprised of acid foods such as fried foods, meat, processed foods, junk foods, fast foods, etc. our body will turn acidic over time.  On the other hand, if we put primarily alkaline substances in our body then our body will become more alkaline.  All disease thrives in an acid environment in the body and does not thrive in a neutral pH close to 7.0.

The most accurate urine pH reading may be measured first thing in the morning, however, body pH on any given day can be high or low for any number of reasons.  For an accurate profile of body pH it is best taken each morning for several days, weeks and then months to get a moving average.  Depending on how alkaline your diet is, consistently drinking a sufficient amount of Ionized Water each day will cause the pH of the body to become more alkaline and closer to neutral where it belongs.

The Toxic Temple We Create Within Ourselves

By Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

When we consume substances that toxify our body, we are in fact defiling our own temple. It’s as though we are walking upon the cleanest floor with dirty, muddy, greasy boots instead of clean sandals. The body is a living temple of God, not just flesh and bone that we own and therefore can treat any way we want to. On the contrary, we must remember that we are purchased at a price [1 Corinthians 6:19-20].

If you are sick with any disease you also know that you are toxic because disease lives on toxins. In the absence of toxins, disease cannot exist in the body. If you are healthy your body will not contain substances that do not belong in it. Anything that does not perform a useful function in the body should be regarded as a toxin that needs to be removed. The body, our temple, is only truly glorious when it is free of toxins. Toxins turn the body into a garbage hull. A temple free of toxins is a disease-free temple. Disease is a symptom of not honoring what God has given us. A diseased body is a testament to our transgressions against God’s living temple.

The Most Carefully Studied Foods on Earth

By Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

Chlorella benefits to our health are widely known.  Chlorella and spirulina are the two most scientifically scrutinized foods on Earth.  More studies have been published about chlorella and spirulina than any other food.  A Certificate of Analysis comes with every batch of chlorella and spirulina we receive from the manufacturer.  They are carefully checked for heavy metals such as lead, bacteria, and other possible contaminants.  No other foods are scrutinized this carefully.  The reason is because they are the most nutritionally dense foods known, and they have the broadest array of nutrients of any foods.  Nothing beats them for Protein, Chlorophyll and nucleic Acids (RNA/DNA).

Here is a detailed nutritional analysis of Chlorella Powder for 2010:  http://watershed.net/media/pdf/Chlorella_powder_Japan_Nat._Lab_2010.pdf

Such an analysis costs more than US$10,000 to complete and is done once each year.

Another Reason to Ignore Any Health Advice from Dr. Mercola

by Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

What Dr. Mercola is great at is disseminating information about the medical industry and exposing medical/health myths.  If you want to find out if soy is good for you or not, Mercola’s website is a good place to start looking.  He has no problem exposing fraud or hypocrisy when he sees it in the medical/health world.  But when it comes to offering real health advice and backing them up with true products his record is terrible.  His “me too” line of health products are pretty much what you can find anywhere else from people who are in the health product business because they see opportunity in it, not because they want to make people healthier.  Mercola’s health products are pedestrian, unimaginative, same old same old and most importantly they do not encourage the basic kind of lifestyle changes that are necessary to be health.  In short, they are crutches, and Mercola is the enabler.

Mercola sells chlorella, but states “it has a lot, a lot of iron and that is a problem for menopausal women.” Well, since chlorella might be a problem for aging women let’s all use extreme caution when consuming the world’s healthiest food.  By the way, the iron in both Chlorella and Spirulina (much higher than Chlorella) is bio-available and will NOT be a problem to menopausal women, as if older women simply stop needing iron like the rest of humanity.  In fact, all raw foods with iron are good for anyone, including elderly women.

Dr. Mercola regularly promotes health products that are essentially unhealthy.  Krill oil is a good example of the kind of product that Mercola sells that is boring and misleading.  All the fatty acids, EFA’s, can be found in the plant world and do not need to be extracted from fish for us to get them.  Where do you think fish get them?  Fish get them from plant world, in particular algae.  However, Mercola is anti-vegetarian and has been involved in a nasty argument with Dr. T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study which supports vegetarianism through hard science.  He is a big promoter of whey protein, which has been promoted and marketed to death in the bodybuilding world for decades now.  Whey protein is a health disaster, which is one of the reasons why bodybuilders have so many health problems.  Like all animal protein, processed milk protein, whey, is dangerous for our health.

The problem with animal protein is that it is a pre-formed protein chain of amino acids that are then brought to high temperatures during the cooking process.  The higher the temperature and the longer the animal protein is cooked at these temperatures, the more harmful the animal protein becomes to our health.  Although it is not desirable, exposing plant proteins (unstructured amino acids) to high temperatures does not have the same deleterious effects on our health.

The products sold at the Watershed Wellness Center reflect my lifestyle.  I sell what I use and use what I sell.  What I promote is nature and only through nature can we obtain health.  I sell wholefoods such as chlorella and spirulina.  I sell herbal extracts because we can get huge benefit from a small dosage of an herb such as mucuna, ginkgo or turmeric for example.  These are incredibly powerful foods that can help solve a person’s health issues if used correctly.

However, Vitamin B-12, Vitamin D, Co-Q10, CLA, Vitamin E, krill oil, etc. do not lead to health, they mislead people about what true health is really all about: Nature.

The Importance of Fasting

By Dr. Bob McCauley

The freedom and ease you experience during fasting enables
you to discover new undreamed depths to the meaning of life.” ~ Herbert Shelton

What naturally follows a discussion about water is a discussion about fasting.  Fasting is absolutely the best thing you can do for your health at any given time.  If you are sick, fasting is the quickest way back to health, a shortcut that allows the body to focus on one thing: not digesting food or taking in nutrients, but that of healing itself.  Digestion requires a lot of energy from the body. “Fasting is the great remedy.  The physician within!” [i] The best fast you can do is a water fast and the best water for fasting is Ionized Water.

Fasting is the only thing I am aware of that every health guru I have ever read or spoken to agrees on.  I do not know of a single health guru who denounces fasting or even suggests that we should not fast on a regular basis.  I often strongly disagree with many health gurus and raw foodists on various issues, but fasting is NOT one of them.  Everyone from Paul Bragg to Norman Walker to Peter Ragnar, all of whom promote distilled water which I disagree with, agree that fasting is necessary for a healthy life.

Fasting gives the body a chance to rest, cleanse and repair itself.  Every major religion in the world promotes fasting.  Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, the prophets and many other spiritual figures through the ages fasted regularly.

fastingYou can fast for any length of time over six hours, which would be considered a mini-fast.  Fasting one day a month is a great habit to develop.  I fast for 24 hours quite often by eating a meal in the evening and then not eating again until the same time the following day.  The habit of eating one large meal a day, usually in the late afternoon or early evening, was commonly practiced by ancient warriors, including the Romans, especially before a battle.  Fighting on an empty stomach was easier, in part because the body is not burdened with the energy demands of digestion.

The word breakfast means to break a fast.  Instead of eating something for breakfast, I continue my fast for as long as possible by drinking only water in the morning and often into the early hours of the afternoon.  Therefore, I fast for at least 14 hours each day.

Fasting cleanses the body as well as the brain.  Clear-minded thinking occurs when the stomach is clear; clouded thinking occurs when the stomach is full.

There are many types of fasting and many ways to fast.  For instance, one can fast with spirulina and chlorella, which is extremely cleansing and energizing.   I fasted on spirulina and chlorella for 10 days and never had so much energy in my life. A raw juice fast will produce similar results, but is not as intense or cleansing.  There are green-vegetable fasts and citrus-juice fasts, but these are not true fasts because we are still putting food into the body.  The only true fast is a water fast.

What you fast on will determine how quickly you expel toxins from your body.  For instance, a juice fast will remove 2 – 20 days of accumulated toxins in a day, whereas an Ionized Water fast will remove up to 100 days of accumulated toxins in a single day.

If you experience severe headaches, rashes, cramps, stomach or joint pain, dizziness or nausea, then you are detoxifying too quickly and you need to slow down.  The rewards of fasting are many, but it can be a rigorous and painful experience for those who are quite toxic.  If you don’t feel good while fasting or the pain becomes too intense, then eat something and the pain will subside.  You will know best when it is time to pull back on the reins.

Detoxification stops immediately when we eat cooked foods of any kind.  Cooked foods contain toxins that further poison the body.  By eating cooked foods the body has no choice but to stop ridding itself of substances that do not belong in it because more are being added to it.

If you don’t feel that you can go it alone, there are clinics and fasting retreat centers that will help you get through a fast.  Some people recommend that fasts be supervised.

While there may be various opinions of various subjects, fasting is the one thing that every health professional and health guru agrees on.  I have never heard anyone object to the practice of fasting other than the unlearned and the those ignorant of health.

For the record I believe the practice of dry fasting, fasting without drinking water, is dangerous for the average person.  Since there is no water hydrate the cells and the tissue toxins are forced out in the extreme.  It is quite an intense form of fasting from all reported.  I would only recommend it for the healthiest of all people.  I have never done it myself and do not plan to any time soon.   It don’t think it’s necessary anymore than running a marathon is necessary to get yourself in good physical shape.  Water is the foundation of health and to remove it from your diet is always a bad idea.

Never drink purified water (distilled water or reverse osmosis water), and of course NEVER fast with purified water.  “Fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Cooking foods in distilled water pulls the minerals out of them and lowers their nutrient value.” ii

However, if you decide to fast, try to get some support from those around you.  Ask them not to encourage you to eat something even though you may be hungry.  After fasting for a couple days, your hunger will disappear, although you will still miss the habit of simply putting something in your mouth.  Without a doubt, fasting is the best way to jump start your health.  The best recommendation I have for anyone who is sick, regardless of the disease, is to fast.

Six Notorious Health Posers

by Bob McCauley, CNC, MH

There are health professionals who truly can help people become healthier and others who have nothing to do with health other than pretending to promote health when in fact it is the same old same old.  Nothing personal against any on this list.  I don’t know any of them personally.  Here’s a short list of those who, in my opinion, are anything but health gurus who people should listen to:

  1. Dr. Andrew Weil. When I saw him in person a few years ago he looked like an overweight, tired, old man.  Do you want to grow old and look like that?  I certainly don’t so I don’t listen to him for the most part.  He doesn’t like Alkaline Ionized Water.  He doesn’t like raw foods.  He doesn’t like Spirulina or chlorella. Dr. Weil is a big name and tiny industry.  He puts his name on countless bars and other supplements.  What does Dr. Weil believe we need to do to be truly healthy?  Read one of the numerous books he’s written over the years that contradict one another and never put their finger on what true health is all about.  Listening to guys like Weil  will never lead you to health.
  2. Dr. Joseph Mercola – I have written about Mercola before.  He doesn’t like ionized water.  He doesn’t promote raw foods. He isn’t vegetarian or vegan. He promoted “lean” meat and “wild” fish.  He sells fish oil and a bunch of other supplements.  He stopped taking a lot of chlorella because he found it had “a lot of iron”.  He exposes the worse of the worse of the medical world and the health world, and for that he should be commended.  But is a perfect example of a doctor who tells people that they need to eat “some cooked foods” and animal protein.  Listening to guys like Mercola will never lead you to health.
  3. Dr. Robert Young. He does promote ionized water and veganism.  But he hates algae, Spirulina and Chlorella.  His book, The pH Miracle, was self-conflicting.  In an interview with Kevin Gianni that I responded to he made a complete fool out of himself in some of the answers he gave including that people begin to look like the foods they eat (really?) and people who eat meat “stink.  You can smell them.  They are rotting inside.” Meat eaters don’t stink and no they aren’t rotting inside.  People who don’t bath stink and people who eat junk foods and various other kinds of garbage is the reason why people rotting from the inside.  I’m against the consumption of animal protein, meat, fish, eggs and dairy, but to make such claims is absurd.
  4. Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld – Fox News in-house doctor is an overweight, nearly obese man who talks about medicine and medications as though they are indispensable to life and actually lead to health.  Which one of his pills that he recommends has cured one of its takers?  He pontificates on nutrition for individuals as though he actually knows what he’s talking about.  The man is obese and he is lecturing us on nutrition?  Okay.  All he does is research that week’s topic and regurgitate what the medical established and “science” has to say about a particular nutrient such as CoQ10 or Vitamin A.  He’s a joke. Listening to guys like Rosenfeld will never lead you to health.
  5. Victoria Boutenko. Women love Victoria, and I like her too.  She’s a nice woman who promotes the raw food diet along with the rest of her family.  What about drinking water?  Not necessary.  What about exercise?  She doesn’t.  What about probiotics?  Doesn’t use them.  What about Spirulina and Chlorella for protein?  Doesn’t need them.  Eat Kale.  What about personal hygiene?  Not important.  Her comments about why her hair turned gray and then went back to black are ridiculous.  She’s overweight.  How can a raw foodist be grossly overweight?  It’s not possible.  Victoria is a nice person who I interviewed years ago  and who has written some good books on health, but follow her down the road of health: for raw foods yes, anything else, absolutely no.
  6. Jordan Rubin. When I interviewed him for my radio program he seemed like a nice guy, but he sold out to NBTY, Inc., a huge public corporation, formerly known as Nature’s Bounty, Inc. They have owned the Garden of Life brand for a few years now, merging them into Attrium Innovations (also a public company), as official buyer of Jordan Rubin’s company.  All these corporate moves were done quietly so as not to make it look like health crusader Rubin was nothing more than just another guy who’s more interested in making money than making people healthy.  Rubin is not a raw foodist, but he has an entire line of products called the Raw Code Vitamins.  He is not a vegan and he does not promote vegetarianism, although he has in the past.  He does not promote vigorous exercise.  Rather he prefers walking because the Jews walked in the desert for 40 years or something.  Rubin was once very sick and looked awful.  He changed his diet and got healthier.  He started small, got big and sold out to a giant corporation that, like all corporate behemoths want primarily to do one thing: Make their bottom line glitter.  Some Health Guru Rubin turned out to be.

Honorable mention:

Daniel Vitalis. Daniel isn’t really a health poser.  Never met him but he seems like a sincere guy who use to be a raw food vegan and now he eats cooked animal protein because he says he almost died on the raw food diet after 10 years.  He must have not been doing it correctly because I’ve been a vegetarian for 31 years and a vegan for 15.  I’m 53 (2011) and still run 6 minute miles and still spar with guys less than half my age.  I must be doing it right when it comes to the raw food vegan lifestyle and Daniel must not have a clue what he is doing.  I certain don’t agree with his ideas about “wild, raw, unfiltered spring water”.  First you need to filter your water; second, I promoted Alkaline Ionized Water.  He does know his stuff about herbs and mushrooms, probably more than I do which is fine.  But don’t promote a cooked animal protein diet and tell me you’re a health guru because you are not, at least not in my book.  I don’t understand how other raw foodist can share a stage with him and promote longevity and great health.  Consuming cooked animal protein does not lead to true health.

Frederick Schilling, Founder of Dagoba Organic Chocolate.  Definitively not a health guru, but made himself out to look like one with his high-minded, look-down-his-nose “healthy” chocolate.   At least when you walk into a Godiva store you know you’re in a snobby place and that’s how they present themselves.  Dagoba has the same priggish attitude while lecturing us on their environmental sustainable and socially responsible chocolate, whatever that means in regards to chocolate.  Shilling is not a health poser but he tried to tell the world that chocolate is healthy and his products were never to be challenged in any way because they were organic and based on environmentally sustainable and socially responsible principles.  Started in 2001, Schilling wanted to prove to the chocolate industry that high end chocolate could be socially responsible and profitable at the same time.  Dagoba Organic Chocolate quickly grew to become an international icon for environmentally sustainable and socially responsible chocolate.  Then Schilling sold out to chocolate giant Hershey Chocolate in 2006 for $17 million dollars.  So much for environmentally sustainable and socially responsible chocolate.  Schilling was actually quoted saying that he intended to change the corporate climate at Hershey and in the commercial chocolate world.    Their chocolate was recalled for salmonella contamination.   Guess that whole environmentally sustainable and socially responsible thing didn’t work out for Dagoba, but rest assured.  Shilling got his millions, and a sellout is a sellout in any business and in life.
