Why Mineral Water is the Best Drinking Water


Bottled Waters: Are All Created Equal? [ Top ]
Bottled water is big business. And it usually tastes better than what comes out of your tap. But is it “healthy water?” It depends. Ask yourself: “Is the water hard? Is it moderately high in TDS?” Most bottled water labels in the US do not give the information you need to know the answers to these questions. Request a complete water analysis from the company. Keep in mind many bottled waters are simply processed water using distillation, reverse osmosis, de-ionization or filtration. Frankly you can do this yourself and save money. With over 700 brands of bottled water available in the US, around 80% are processed water. Purchase only natural spring or artesian well waters that come closest to the “healthy water” criteria – hardness 170 mg/l and TDS 300 mg/l. References:(47)

 

Michigan Mineral – Premium Natural Water has a Hardness of 260 mg/l and TDS 362 mg/l.

Purified Water: To Drink or Not to Drink[ Top ]
De-mineralized water has little or no minerals. This is the result if you use a distiller, a reverse osmosis unit (RO), or de-ionization (ion exchange resins). However, the research on heart disease and cancer shows a healthy water is hard and moderately high in TDS (total dissolved solids). Why do people purchase these de-mineralized or water softening systems? Usually their thinking goes something like this. “I know I should drink water, but it’s so polluted with chlorine, chemicals and toxic metals, that it’s not safe. So I’ll get rid of these harmful things and all will be OK.”

Not really. Creating a “healthy water” means removing the harmful agents but keeping the beneficial minerals. “Minerals in drinking water are more easily and better absorbed than minerals from food,” according to Dr. John Sorenson, a leading authority on mineral metabolism.

Purifiying devices remove everything from the water, harmful bacteria and beneficial minerals. This stripped water cannot sustain life even in a fish bowl. All fish require minerals to prosper, and if allowed to live in these types of water will perish. If this type of water is ingested for long periods of time, it can leach out valuable body minerals such as potassium, magnesium, sodium and calcium. Mineralized water is needed for all cellular functions and if there are no minerals in your drinking water your body will rob the minerals from somewhere in your body to satisfy its needs. Chlorination: Heart Disease & Cancer [ Top ]
Is the chlorine in our municipal drinking water acting as a catalyst triggering tumor development both in atherosclerosis (heart disease) and cancer? In the late 1960’s Joseph Price, MD.., wrote a fascinating, yet largely ignored book entitled, Coronaries, Cholesterol, Chlorine. Based on his experiments he boldly shows, “Nothing can negate… the basic cause of atherosclerosis and .. heart attacks and most common forms of strokes is chlorine. The chlorine contained in processed drinking water.”

Can chlorine be linked to cancer too? Chlorine combines with natural organic matter creating cancer causing trihalomethanes (THMs). Collectively THMs include such carcinogens as chloroforms, bromoforms, carbon tectachloride, bischlorothane and others.

Drinking chlorinated tap water destroys beneficial bacteria in the body which will weaken and eventually damage one’s immunity, and should also be avoided.

Bathing: A Chemical War Zone? [ Top ]
Preliminary research suggests that the ingestion of harmful chemicals from drinking water may not be the primary route of exposure. Both skin absorption and inhalation have been studied. Skin versus oral absorption rates for toxic chemicals in both children and adults show much higher rates of chemical absorption from skin than from oral ingestion for toluene, ethyl benzene, and styrene. Inhalation from showering for TCE (trichloroethylene) was 6 to 80 times greater than from drinking. Lover’s of hot tubs & pools beware!

One should consider a using point of use shower filter. This is for chemical, not mineral removal. This can solve your bathing water problems. References: (3) , (8) , (9)

Asbestos: Now In Drinking Water [ Top ]
Asbestos is starting to be discovered in some drinking water systems. Many of us have heard the stories of asbestos inhalation and cancer. Dr. Irving J. Selikoff painstakingly documented the relationship between occupational asbestos exposure and increased respiratory and digestive cancer. He found that it generally took at least 20 years of exposure to asbestos before the damage shows and when it does it’s generally too far advanced. Selikoff calls this the 20 to 30 year rule for environmental disease to show its horrible face.

Studies done in the cities of Duluth, Minneapolis, Iowa City, San Francisco on people drinking water with asbestos are starting to show that they have higher levels of cancer deaths of the stomach, small intestines, pancreas, gastro-intestinal area and lungs. This is the same pattern as from asbestos inhalation. Yet these cancers are starting to show up after only 10 to 15 years of exposure. References: (17) , (18) , (42) , (45)

Animal Studies: The Compelling Evidence [ Top ]
The research presented in other sections from Healthy Water has been based mainly on human studies usually looking at large populations or epidemiological analysis. These numerous studies have lead me to advocate that a “healthy water” is one that contains moderate amounts of TDS, is hard, and has an alkaline pH. What do the animal studies reveal?

Most animal experiments use water that is made “hard” or “soft” to which various harmful substances like cadmium, lead, chlorine or fluoride, have been added. What is usually found is that animals drinking the hard water have less of the harmful agent in their tissues than the animals drinking the soft water.

The Path to Great Health

Water, Algae and Raw Foods that Heal

What this article will be discussing are low-fat foods that are considered Power Foods, those foods that have extraordinary nutritive, health and/or healing properties. If provided with the proper nutrition your body will heal itself from common ailments and diseases. Some of these Superfoods are known as nutraceuticals because they do just that: allow your body to heal itself. However, it is always easier to prevent diseases than it is to fight them once they have already started.

Once you start eating these foods, your energy level will soon pick up. The body’s cells and organs will also stop constantly sending signals to your brain that you are hungry when in fact your body is sorely lacking nutrients so it is sending those signals that are translated into hunger. It will become easier for you to lose weight under these conditions. There are many healthy foods, but these listed here have been singled out as having extraordinary health benefits.

Alkalinity: One thing all these foods have in common is that they all produce an alkaline condition in the body to varying degrees. This is crucial because keeping your body alkaline is what helps stave off any and all diseases. Diseases start and thrive well in an acidic environment and will not start or thrive well in an alkaline environment. While creating an acidic environment in your body through poor diet and pharmaceuticals could promote certain diseases, more dangerous is that if one does start either because of diet, genetic or environmental reasons, it will have the perfect environment to flourish.

Enzymes: Enzymes are large complex proteins. Upon entering the stomach all proteins are broken down by acids and digestive chemicals into amino acids which are then absorbed and utilized by the body to make new proteins, provide energy, and repair damaged tissues. We are born with the ability to produce a certain number of enzymes and once we have reached that number, our body can NOT produce any more. It is important to eat at least some of your food raw because the enzymes in food are destroyed when cooked, processed or freeze-dried. Anything eaten out of can has had the enzymes, the most vital part of its nutritive properties removed from that food. Enzymes work with minerals or vitamins but are more important than either of them. Enzyme deficiency can lead to a host of diseases and ailments. We can literally do nothing such as move or even blink without metabolic enzymes. Enzymes are by far one of the most important elements in our diet.

Water: While often not considered a food, it not only is a food, but it can be argued that it is by far THE most important food of all. The human body is composed of 80% water, the balance being primarily minerals, which is why they are so important. “Chronic cellular dehydration painfully and prematurely kills. Its initial outward manifestations have until now been left as diseases of unknown origin.” Your Body’s Many Cries For Water, Dr. Batmanghelidj, MD. It is very difficult for the body to get water from any other place other than water itself.

Mineral Water or Purified Water? Water purified by distillation or reverse osmosis should never be consumed. It depletes your body of minerals over time. It goes into you pure, but it certainly does not come out pure. Of course, it gets those minerals from our bodies. People who drink purified water often complain of indigestion and gas. Only water with minerals in it should be consumed.

Alkaline or Ionized Water is electronically restructured water that has some incredible health benefits. It is a powerful antioxidant, a powerful hydrator and detoxifier, it also encourages a balanced body pH, which is helpful for fighting diseases. Do NOT drink water 30 minutes before and after a meal. Drinking water around mealtime disrupts digestion and dilutes the nutrients in the foods we eat.

Chlorella. Probably the most powerful food in existence, Chlorella Pyrenoidosa is a green algae. It is a superior immune system builder, extremely nutritious and the best known natural detoxifier of heavy metals from the body. Promotes Cardiovascular health, is considered a powerful nutraceutical and very high in chlorophyll. The only difference between chlorophyll and blood is the molecule at the center of it.

Spirulina. Spirulina Pacifica is a blue green algae that also is an extremely pure and nutrition foods with a digestibility rate of 95%. Very helpful for joint inflammation. Extremely high in iron and beta-carotene. Considered a powerful nutraceutical.

Asparagus. It is extremely alkaline to the body and has extraordinary health and a great for preventing certain diseases.

Bananas. One of the truly great whole foods of the earth. Very high in fiber, potassium and Vitamin A. Bananas are a high energy food and a powerful immune system builder. Along with apples, bananas help keep the doctor away!

Pineapple. Contains bromolain, an essential digestive enzyme that breaks down amino acids. Very nutritious, alkaline, high in fiber and other vitamins.

Sprouts. These are seeds and beans that have been sprouted and are meant to be eaten raw because of the enzymes available in them. Depending are the kind of sprout, they are also high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Alfalfa is full of enzymes and is self digesting. Broccoli sprouts for instance have been found to be incredibly high in Sulforaphane, a dietary means of chemically reducing cancer risks.

Garlic. Strong antibiotic that can actually kill infecting bacteria. It is an antioxidant and also helps balance blood pressure, balance cholesterol levels, improves circulation, impotence, pregnancy, antifungal, balances blood sugar levels, cardiovascular health, coughs and colds, stomach conditions, builds the immune system.

Hot Peppers. Very good for digestion. Another great immune system builder.

Bee Pollen. A truly superior, pure, alkaline food. One could live on nothing else.

Green Superfoods. Wheat grass juice, barley green, kelp. They are extremely pure, full of enzymes, chlorophyll, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins.

What “Foods” You Should Not Eat

When we think of food, we think of something that provides energy and nutrition to the body. The reason “foods” is in quotations is because many of these things should NOT be considered foods at all because of the deleterious effect they have on human health. All these “foods” have something in common as well: they are substances that produce acid waste in the body to varying degrees. They offer little or no nutrition left in the “food” because it has been removed through cooking and processing.

Soft Drinks. The biggest offender, the worst thing you can put in your body is soft drinks, in particular colas. Soft drinks are made with purified water and are loaded with phosphates which pull minerals out of the body. They are extremely acidic, with a pH of 2.5-3.0, which is several thousand times more acidic than our bodies! Soft drinks are by far the worst thing that people put in themselves without any warning of the possible harm they can cause your health! Soft drinks steal water from your body by acting like a diuretic. For every glass of soda, you must drink 8-12 glasses of water to replace the water loss from your body! To counteract the acidity soft drinks plunges your body into, you must drink even more.

Beware of any product sold in aluminum packaging, especially something that is extremely acidic such as soft drinks because it can leach the aluminum into the product. Many deodorants contain aluminum as well. Alzheimer patients have all been found to have aluminum in their brains.

Processed and Highly Refined Foods. Highly processed foods, many that you may never suspect, can often be quite dangerous to our health. They have been stripped of their mineral and vitamin content and often replaced with synthetic vitamins. They also have been stripped of their vital enzymes. In this condition, these foods produce dangerous amounts of acid waste in the body. Highly refined sugar, flour & vinegar should be avoided as well. Trans Fats (partially Hydrogenated Vegetable oils).

Fast Foods and Fried Foods. These are processed foods, void of much of their natural nutritional value. French fries are a prime example of a food such as the potato that has been stripped of its nutrients (the skin), frozen and then deep fried so there is nothing left but pure starch, which produces high amounts of acid waste in the body. These foods are often high in fat should be avoided as well.

What is Chlorella?

Chlorella is a green algae. The name Chlorella derives from two Latin words meaning ‘leaf’ (green) and ‘small’, referring to the unusually high content of chlorophyll (the highest of any known plant) which gives Chlorella its characteristic deep emerald-green color. Algae are a group of one-celled plants, containing no true root, stem or leaf. This particular fresh-water, single celled microscopic plant contains a host of health building nutrients. In addition to chlorophyll it contains vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, nucleic acids, amino acids, enzymes, CGF (Chlorella Growth Factor) and other substances. Chlorella Cells

Chlorella belongs to a very small, yet powerful group of foods known as Nutraceuticals. Spirulina is also known as a Nutraceutical.

Both Watershed Chlorella and Watershed spirulina are very particular strains of algae. Watershed Chlorella is a strain of algae known as Chlorella Pyrensoida. From a single pure source, this algae has been reproduced for thousands of generations. This insures the integrity of the strain’s purity will stay intact without degenerating. Want to stay healthy and look younger?

Your muscles are designed to work well only in a narrow range of almost zero acidity, according to Michael Colgan, PhD, in Optimum Sports Nutrition. Arterial blood works best with no acid at all. Acidity is measured by the concentration of hydrogen ions (pH). A pH of 7.0 is neutral, midway between very acidic (pH of 1) and very alkaline (pH of 14), he explained.

“The pH skill is water arithmetic, like the skill of earthquakes,” Coleman said. “So small changes in the numbers mean large differences in acidic E or alkaline 80. A pH of 6 is Ten times more acidic than a pH of 7. At rest, muscle pH is about 6.9, while arterial blood is about 7.4.”

As you begin to exercise, he continued, the increased use of muscle glycogen for energy produces lactic acid and pyruvic acid, to substances which contain a lot of hydrogen ions (H+), which drive muscle and blood pH down into the acid zone. (Incidentally, pH is derived from the French pouvoir hydrogene, meaning hydrogen power.)

Colgan goes on to say that the harder you exercise, the quicker you “go acid.” When muscle pH drops below 6.5, the acidity disrupts all sorts of links in the energy chain. For example, the enzyme phosphofructokinase is the rate limiting step in muscle use of glycogen. Below pH 6.5, it stops working altogether. And, he says, acidity also reduces muscle power directly by inhibiting the contractile action of muscle fibers.

“So,” Colgan added, “The first thing that a successful ergogenic supplement has to do is reduce the accumulation of acidity in exercising muscle. You can put all sorts of other chemicals into the bloodstream, but, unless you reduce acidity during exercise, your muscles will tie up.”

Another inhibitor of exercise, Colgan said, happening simultaneously with the accumulation of acid, is the accumulation of ammonia; anaerobic and endurance exercise produces a lot of it. Ammonia is toxic to cells, it reduces the formation of glycogen, and it inhibits the energy cycle.

He adds that, although we still do not know how much ammonia contributes to fatigue, we do know that the higher your blood ammonia, the poorer your performance.

Immediately after marathon races, triathlons or other endurance events, some athletes have very low blood phosphate levels, Colgan said. Even athletes with high resting phosphate levels show marked reductions after endurance exercise.

“How does this loss of phosphate damage performance?” Colgan asked. “First, there is a loss of acid buffering. Phosphate is a major alkaline buffer of muscle. Second, to make new muscle glycogen, your body has to use pyridoxal phosphate, a mix of phosphate and vitamin B6.”

Since many people, including athletes, do not consume enough alkaline rich foods, such as fruits, nuts and vegetables, but instead rely heavily on acid forming foods, such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, etc., they may be at risk for an acidic condition in their body fluids.

Dextoxification Properties of Chlorella

Chlorella – Natural Medicinal Algae

“Detoxification refers to the removal of toxic substances from the body. These substances are either poisons that have entered from outside of the person as occurs in pesticide poisoning or may occur from within the body e.g. when the colon contains bacteria that produce toxic substances or as a result of inefficient metabolism of the body as a whole. The detoxification capability of Chlorella is due to its unique cell wall and the material associated with it. The cell walls of Chlorella have been shown to have three layers of which the thicker middle layer contains cellulose microfibrils. Atkinson et al found a 14nm thick trilaminar layer outside the cell wall proper which was extremely resistant to breakage and thought to be composed of a polymerised carotene like material…..Laboratory studies showed that there were two active absorbing substances – sporopollenin (a naturally occurring carotene like polymer which is resistant to degradation) and the algae cell walls.” – Dr David Steenblock,B.S.,M.Sc.,D.O.

Chlorella – The sun-powered supernutrient and its beneficial properties

“In Japan, interest in Chlorella has focused largely on its detoxifying properties–its ability to neutralize or remove poisonous substances from the body. Japan, with the earliest and most catastrophic experience with nuclear by-products and growing problem of industrial pollution, as exemplified in the outbreak of the mercury-caused Minimata disease, has a special concern with environmental contamination, and paid immediate attention to early medical journal reports of Chlorella’s effect on pollutants.

One such test in the United States involved the administration of the poisonous hydrocarbon chlordecone to animals, which were then fed Chlorella. The Chlorella interrupted the recirculation of the chlordecone and eliminated it from the animal’s bodies. The researchers concluded that Chlorella was potentially effective as a detoxifier for not only chlordecone but for compounds with similar properties, such as dioxin and PCBs.

The presence of such contaminants in the food supply and atmosphere was already seen as a problem requiring solution, and such reports encouraged research in Japan, but it was the studies indicating Chlorella’s effectiveness against radioactive contamination that really stimulated Chlorella production in that country. As early as 1950 a paper in Experientia reported that guinea pigs on a diet rich in chlorophyll showed increased resistance to lethal X-rays; the U.S. Army repeated the experiment, with the same results.

A Japanese study of heavy metal poisoning with cadmium revealed that when 8 grams of Chlorella were administered to test animals daily, cadmium excretion increased threefold in the stool and sevenfold in the urine.

A 1986 Scottish study reported that cadmium is accumulated internally in algae as a result of a two-phase uptake process. The first phase involves a rapid physiochemical absorption of cadmium onto cell wall binding sites, which are probably protein and/or polysaccharides, followed by a slow, steady intracellular uptake.
Another example of Chlorella’s ability to detoxify was shown in a study in which a culture of brewer’s yeast was given a lethal dose of four highly toxic substances, mercury, copper, cadmium and PCB. When Chlorella extract was added to a mixture of these poisons, the brewers yeast remained alive. Chlorella can also detoxify uranium and lead. Many more studies substantiate the ability of Chlorella to remove poisonous materials from the body. It appears the detoxification effect is due both to the chlorophyll content of Chlorella and to the composition of its cell walls. This is the reason that cell walls are included when Chlorella is prepared for sale.
The cell walls of Chlorella have three layers, of which the thicker middle layer contains cellulose microfibrils, and the outer layer a polymerized carotenoid material. “The thick cell wall, which so effectively protects the Chlorella cells’ ingredients, can be broken down either mechanically or chemically to increase digestibility. In fact, the cell wall itself has a beneficial effect. When Chlorella is used as a food, fragments of the cell wall adhere to and remove heavy metals like cadmium, lead and mercury from the body….Dr Liang-Pin Lin of National Taiwan University said – “We can do experiments to show that Chlorella absorbs heavy metals from water. Chlorella

“Chlorella binds strongly to cadmium and will not give it up to the body. Dr T.Nagano at Shizuoka College of Pharmacy in Japan did a study a study in which rats were given Chlorella that contained cadmium to determine whether the cadmium would be absorbed from the Chlorella into the rats. In rats given only cadmium (without Chlorella), growth retardation was noted, while no problem with growth was seen in those given Chlorella containing cadmium. Blood levels of cadmium were determined and demonstrated that the cadmium that was bound to the Chlorella was not absorbed into the rats’ bodies.

Chlorella has been used to detoxify people suffering from P.C.B. (polychlorobiphenyl) exposure. Dr Ueda of the Kitakyushu City Institute for Environmental Pollution Research gave 30 patients who suffered from P.C.B. exposure daily doses of 4-6 grams of Chlorella for one year. Almost all improved being less tired, with better digestion and normal bowel movements. Chlordecone (kepone) another very harmful chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticide, has been shown to be removed more than twice as fast from the body when Chlorella is taken by mouth. Dr S Pore of the School of Medicine, West Virginia University did a study in which Chlorella given to rats speeded up the detoxification of this toxin, decreasing the half-life of the toxin from 40 days to 19 days.

Drs D Lorch and A Weber reported that Chlorella walls absorb and hang onto lead. In 1979 a study done by Dr Horikoshi showed that the cell components extracted from Chlorella even bind uranium.

Chlorella’s ability to detoxify the body is very significant because of the large amount of chemicals we are exposed to in today’s modern world. How is the outer shell of the Chlorella cell broken open?

If the cell wall of the Chlorella is not broken open, the nutrients in Chlorella are not accessible, yet not all Chlorella producers adequately open the cell wall. It is this outer fibrous cell wall that differentiates Chlorella from any other algae. It is a unique dietary fiber found no where else in nature that builds up in the body over time, binders with heavy metal, radiation and other synthetic toxins and effectively removes them. CGF – Chlorella Growth Factor

Chlorella has the ability to quadruple in quantity every 20 hours, which no other plant or substance on earth can do. It is programmed into its DNA to do so. It causes children and young animals to grow at must faster rate and for damaged tissue to increase its healing rate. However, exactly what this CGF substance is still remains a deep mystery.

It has hormone-like qualities to it and while it does not make adults grow faster, it does stimulate tissue repair, even if it has been ulcerated or damaged and has resisted traditional healing methods.

Chlorella has been used effectively as a topical treatment for damaged tissue. It is also the CGF that as helped in reversing chronic diseases of many kinds. The CGF is an amalgam of RNA, DNA, amino acids, vitamins and minerals whose exact properties have not yet been identified.

Research has indicated that chlorella is effective in restoring the body weakened by persistent hydrocarbon and metallic toxins such as DDT, PCB, mercury, cadmium and lead, while strengthening the immune system response.

CGF improves our immune system and strengthens our body’s ability to recover from exercise and diseases. It also helps prevents gastric ulcers and helps promote healthy pregnancies. In experiments, mice that were injected with cancer cells showed a high resistance to the cancer when they were fed chlorella. Another experiment showed that CGF improved the resistance to abdominal tumors and increased the number of immune cells in the abdominal cavity.

Scientific research indicates that regular use of chlorella prevents the heart disease, and reduces high blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels.

Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) derived its name because laboratory test indicated that the addition of CGF to a standard growth medium increased the growth of friendly bacteria, lactobacillus, by up to 400%. Many researchers believe that CGF, which is unique to Chlorella and present in the greatest values in Chlorella pyrenoidosa grown in sunlight, is the most potent fraction of all. CGF still holds many secrets but is a nucteotide – peptide complex with many constituent parts in very small quantities.

The nucleic acid in the human body (RNA/DNA) is responsible for directing cellular renewal, growth and repair. The quantity of nucleic acid in the body decreases from about the age of twenty and insufficient nucleic acid causes premature aging as well as weakened immunity to common viruses and disease. Nucleic acid is depleted by lack of exercise, stress, pollution and poor diet. Replenishing RNA/DNA is therefore fundamental to every aspect of bodily health, longevity and quality of life. Since Chlorella has a perfect reproductive single cell it is more evolved organism than the other more common green micro – algae and therefore offers superior RNA/DNA.

RNA/DNA also strengthens immunity by improving the activity of T-cells and B-cells which are the principal immune system defenders against viruses and other invading micro-organisms. CGF is identified as being responsible for the production of macrophages within the immune system which can assist in the destruction of cancer cells and the removal of cellular debris.

CGF is 100% water soluble and so readily “body-available”. Dr. Bob’s CGF has an optional density of 5000 which makes it the most potent produced anywhere in the world. The 3% CGF content of Chlorella makes it also useful for improving growth patterns in children, maintaining good health in middle and old age, healing injuries and initiating cellular re-growth where it has been stunted by disease or degeneration.

Enhancement of endonuclease activity and repair DNA synthesis by polysaccharide of spirulina

“The influence of water soluble polysaccharide from spirulina platensis on excision repair of DNA was investigated by means of endonuclease assay and radioautography. The results showed that the presence of the polysaccharide enhanced significantly both the repair activity of radiation damaged DNA excision and the unscheduled DNA synthesis (UDS). During the examination of the time course of the excision process, it was found that the presence of polysaccharide of spirulina not only increased the initial rates of the damaged DNA excision and the UDS, but also postponed the saturations of both important reactions of excision and repair DNA synthesis.” – Qishen, P. et al. Water Ionizers and Water Quality Concerns – Home or Office

There is nothing more important for the body than water. If people simply drank enough water and kept their bodies sufficiently hydrated, 60% to 80% of the chronic disease we find today would be seriously abated if not complete eliminated.  However, putting poor quality unfiltered water into the body can be worse than not drinking water at all.  Chlorine and other contaminants are common in many waters through the country and these should not be consumed.  However, with proper filtration, most water can be turned into high enough quality that it can be consumed without fear of it hurting you.

Municipal Water
Water Ionizers can be used with most municipal (city) water.  Even though the quality of municipal is usually not the greatest to begin with, with proper filtration it can raise to the level of acceptable drinking water.  The biggest problem with municipal water is that it has chlorine, which is an oxidant and a known carcinogen that can cause liver damage if consumed on a regular basis.  Another danger is showering in chlorinated water, especially in a hot shower where you are exposed directly to chlorine gas by breathing it in and by having it directly absorbed into the skin pores that have been opened up by the hot water.

The amount of minerals in your water will directly effect the strength of ionized water you will be able to produce with your water ionizers.  The more minerals in the source water, the stronger the ionization.  Stronger ionization means higher pH and lower ORP (oxidation reduction potential), which is what you are looking for with a water ionizer.  The Miracle Fountain Water Ionizer has mineral ports where more minerals may be added to the water to produce stronger Ionized Water.  You can add any water soluble mineral to the mineral port, which will then be absorbed by the water then ionized as it goes through the Water Ionizer.  Once a mineral has been ionized, it will be taken into the body much more efficiently because it has taken on an extra electron.

Filtration Options
Additional pre-filtration options are available for underneath the sink and on top of the counter.  The Watershed Wellness Center offers 10 micron granulated carbon filters,1.0 micron carbon block filters, 0.5 ceramic filters and iron resin filters, fluoride/arsenic filter, sulfur filters, as well as the filter housings for them.  You can never filter your water too much and filtration never removes the dissolved minerals from the water.

Fluoride
Most municipal water companies add fluoride to the water, especially in large cities.  There is much controversy about this process.  Since fluoride is a acid mineral, it will tend to migrate to the acid side of the water and go out the acid tube.  On the strongest ionization level, you will loose about 50% of the fluoride in the drinking side of the Ionized Water.

Well Water
Water Ionizers can be used with most Well Water. The two most common problems found in well water are hydrogen sulfide and high iron content.  Both of these can be filtered out.  Hydrogen sulfide can be filtered with a granulate carbon filter.  Iron can be filtered with a resin filter at point of use.  If your well is deep, over 150′, that is usually enough natural filtration not to be concerned about the water being contaminated.  If your septic system is within 50′ of the well, you should run a bacteria test.

Hydrogen Sulfide
If your water smells like rotten eggs (sulfur), you have hydrogen sulfide in your water.  As it off-gases the bad sulfur smell, people are lead to believe the water is undrinkable.  Hydrogen sulfide can be filtered out using a granulated carbon filter.  You can also use a granulated carbon pre-filter installed either under the sink or on the countertop.

Iron Content in Water
High iron content in water can cause problems for a Water Ionizer.  If you wish to use a Water Ionizer with water, we recommend using a iron resin pre-filter.  They can be used on the countertop or installed directly into the line below the sink.  They are installed on the cold water line since only cold water should be used with a Water Ionizer.

High iron content in well, and sometimes municipal water supplies, is more often caused by the well casing and the already corroded pipes in the house.  Less often it is the actual high level of iron in the existing ground water, although it can be quite high in many places around the country.  Iron can be filtered to a great degree.  There are whole-house iron filters that are costly, but effective.

Salt Softened Water
Salt softened water should never be consumed because of the high sodium content in the water.  Salt is also a corrosive element that builds up in pipes.  In a hot shower, you will breath in large amounts of sodium.  If you do have a water softener and wish to use a Water Ionizer, you must either turn off the water softener or run a line before the water softener and use the Water Ionizer on the raw, unsoftened water.  If you turn off the water softener, you may want to consider using a Magnetic Water Conditioners.

Magnetic Water Conditioners
Magnetic Hard Water Conditioners are a chemical free, salt free, and the permanent healthy answer to your hard water problems. Prior existing scale is magnetically dissolved in the water. Scale is removed from your water heater and plumbing system thereby saving you energy and money.  Magnetic Hard Water Conditioners also create de-gasification, which decreases the taste and smell of chlorine. Water becomes wetter and softer. Soap works better, clothes become cleaner. Water Ionizers and Purified Water: Reverse Osmosis & Distillation
Ionized Water can not be created using Purified Water because there are no minerals in the water. Purified Water should NOT be consumed under any circumstances.  This is because purified water leaches minerals from the body and does not properly hydrate the body because the pentagonal shape of purified water molecule clusters.  (Ionized Water molecules are hexagonal in shape and therefore extremely hydrating, up to 6 times more penetrating and hydrating than conventional water).  Check the label of any bottled water you purchase and be sure that it is NOT water purified, stripped of its minerals, by distillation or reverse osmosis.  Penta Water and Aqua Fina are both purified bottled waters.  There are many proponents of drinking purified water who have elaborate arguments as to why purified water is so healthy to drink.  We at the Watershed Wellness Center find their logic mere sophistry.

Using 5 Gallon Bottled Water with your Water Ionizer
If you wish to use water that comes in 5 gallon bottles of water, The Watershed Wellness Center offers  the Flojet BW1000A Bottled Water Dispensing System.  This on-demand electric pump will allow you to pump water through your Water Ionizer from several feet away.  All that will be required is a 1/4″ hose clamp to be used at the connection between the Water Ionizer and the Flojet BW1000A.  You will need to operate the Flojet BW1000A manually when using the dispenser in this way, turning it on and off each time you wish to use the Water Ionizer.
