Processed corn products are replete throughout the food supply chain these days.  High Fructose Corn Syrup is a perfect example of the weird things that are done to corn.  It’s been presented to the public as a harmless sweetener by the Corn Refiners Association when in fact the people who produce HFCS have to wear space suits when they work around it because it is so dangerous.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYiEFu54o1E&feature=related HFCS is high in mercury, another fact that the producers of HFCS have failed to tell us.

How Much Water Should We Drink Each Day?

I only drink water, tea and raw juice.   There are a lot of different opinions on this.  We need to drink half our weight in ounces each day (100 ounces for a 200 lb person), but I believe that is the bare minimum.  We need to consume 1 – 2 gallons (4 – 8 liters) of water each day.

Proper hydration is the cornerstone to health and the most important thing we can do for our health is stay properly hydrated.

We need to flush the digestive system between meals.  Never drink water before or during a meal or 45 – 60 minutes after a meal.  You will have better digestion if you stay away from water around mealtime.

Never drink more than one liter per hour. No more than two gallons per day.

Fasting is the healthiest thing we can do for our health. It gives the body a chance to Cleanse, Rest and Repair itself.

When people complain about drinking so much water I remind them that I would rather go to the bathroom 1000 times than to go the doctor’s once.

Top Reasons to Drink Alkaline Ionized Water

I absolutely adore Ionized Water. I wrote the bible of Alkaline Ionized Water. I have since I consumed my first glass of it over 10 years ago. And because I am such a strong proponent of Ionized Water, I’m often asked what it has done for me personally since I began drinking it in 1995. Simply put, the effects on my body have been dramatic and profound, even though these positive changes occurred quite subtly. That is what everyone can expect from drinking Ionized Water: subtle yet profound changes in their health, all of them positive.

I was already drinking a gallon of conventional water (spring and tap water) every day when I began consuming Ionized Water. I also was a cooked-food vegetarian so I did not suffer the detoxification effects of Ionized Water, which are extremely powerful. Only those who are quite toxic will notice these strong effects. That’s not to say I didn’t detoxify because I did and it was a deep detoxification. I was a 95% cooked foodist at the time so I had a lot of cleansing to do. I did not exhibit the more brutal symptoms of detoxification that some do. However, we should all be cautious when we first begin drinking Ionized Water. Many people who believe they are healthy, including vegetarians and fitness gurus, suffer from the intense detoxification properties of Ionized Water, which are like none other known. We must respect the power of tiny water molecule clusters because of their penetrating and cleansing properties.

I did get a few rashes in the early days as toxins came out of my body, but they were minor and I effectively treated them with Acid Ionized Water, which is excellent for treating rashes. I started by drinking Ionized Water at the highest level (pH 9.5 – 9.9) and consumed at least a gallon of it every day. Now I drink 1.5 – 2.0 gallons of Ionized Water each day and I have never felt better in my life. You’ll never have true energy and vitality without properly hydrating your body throughout each day. The subject of water should be the first chapter of every medical text book.

Since I was not ill when I first started consuming Ionized Water, I cannot claim that Ionized Water cured me of anything, although it has helped many others with a plethora of health conditions. Many people have written to me over the years testifying to the innumerable ways that Ionized Water has improved their health (Appendix 7: Testimonials). I have not kept them all, but if I were to have included them in this book, they would have easily doubled its size.

My body pH is balanced around 7.0 where it ought to be. My muscles are more relaxed because much of the lactic acid waste has been washed from my muscle tissue. I am 53 and do not ache in any of my joints. I am undoubtedly more limber, oxygenated, detoxified and better hydrated than any other time in my life.

My body’s cells are bathed in the negative ORP of Ionized Water, which helps extinguish the oxidation of my body. Thus, I am retarding, if not reversing, the aging process at a cellular level.

I was in my late thirties when I started drinking Ionized Water and the many years of accumulated acid waste deposited throughout the human body takes months, even years to remove. It will take a lot of water and lot of time to fully accomplish the goal of complete pH balance and detoxification throughout my body. But I could not have so easily gotten as far as I have without the daily consumption of Ionized Water.

Colds and flus have completely disappeared from my life since I began drinking Ionized Water. If I do feel a cold or sore throat coming on, I find that drinking a few extra glasses of Ionized Water quickly puts it at bay by hydrating and alkalizing my body so it can better fight the invasion.

Ionized Water is best used as a preventative health measure, although its healing properties are to be greatly respected as well. Water alone is the body’s greatest ally for healing, better than anything a physician could possibly do for it. Ionized Water has many times the healing properties of conventional water. However, it is the body and only the body that is capable of healing itself of any disease. All we can do is provide it with the right ammunition so it can provide us with health. Ionized Water should definitely be in the arsenal we provide to the body for its defenses.

Know Your Source of Spirulina and Chlorella

Not all Chlorella and Spirulina producers are the same. Many companies produce and sell Chlorella and Spirulina.  Some have decades of experience, while others have only a few years.   Producing Chlorella and Spirulina is not an easy task whatsoever. It is a complicated blend of science and art.  Chlorella and Spirulina are used as ingredients in many natural products, such as nutritional bars and super green foods.  But the question is where does the Chlorella and Spirulina come from, meaning who produced it?

Most companies who retail Chlorella will admit it’s from China if they are pushed to answer. The question is where in China and which producer do they purchase it from.   Most often they either don’t know because they bought it from a broker or they are embarrassed to say they know nothing about the producer.

Do not consume any Chlorella or Spirulina without seeing the COA. When you want to purchase Chlorella, first ask for the COA, Certificate of Analysis.  It tells you everything about the product including its origin and quality.  We offer one with every batch we purchase from Taiwan Chlorella.  There are Pheophorbides , heavy metals and bacteria levels that need to be measured by law for Chlorella.    The producer does have it but many of them don’t want to offer it because it may reveal something embarrassing about their product.  We are the only company that openly offers a COA of our products.  They are posted on our website.

Chlorella and Spirulina from Taiwan is good quality, but some of it is quite expensive.  Some of the best Chlorella in the world comes from Taiwan, but not all of it is good quality.  I have blogged about the producers of Cryptomondales and the misrepresentation of their algae product which they claim is a cross between species, which is a flat-out lie.  While it is a good product, we need to be wary of a company that is capable of lying about how their product is produced and what it actually is.

Fermented Chlorella is Chlorella grown in tanks.  It comes primarily from Korea, although it is being to cultivated in tanks in other countries as well.  It is inexpensive but it never sees the light of day.  Natural sunlight is critical for growing Chlorella since it helps produce the chlorophyll in Chlorella.  The taste of this Chlorella is unlike Chlorella that is grown outside in sunlight under natural conditions.  See my BLOG here comparing fermented vs. Sunlight grown Chlorella.

Japanese Chlorella is generally good quality, but there are questions about radiation contamination from Fukushima.

Spirulina from Hawaii. Quite expensive although the aluminum levels in Hawaiian Spirulina is quite high.  I cannot explain where the aluminum is coming from in their brand and neither can they.  Be careful of Spirulina that is called “Hawaiian” because only 51% actually needs to be grown in Hawaii

Spirulina from Ecuador.  Sometimes called Inca Spirulina.  Good quality with lows metals grown in tubes.  Quite expensive.

Spirulina from India. Some of the only Certified Organic Spirulina on the market. – Very high quality but quite expensive.

Chlorella, Kelp, FIR Sauna, Ionized Water – Combating Radiation Exposure

With the recent problems in Japan concerning the nuclear power reactors and radiation leakage I would like to offer the following natural modalities for removing radiation from the body once it has been exposed to it.

First we need to be aware that the act of riding in a commercial airliner at 25,000+ ft exposes us to large amounts of radiation. The higher you are the greater the exposure. Sailors working on aircraft carriers have been exposed to high amounts of radiation from the microwave equipment they work around.

If the ozone layer and upper ionosphere were to diminish significantly the Earth would be exposed to large amounts of radiation.

If we are exposed to radiation I recommend the following foods and health products to combat the potentially harmful damage that radiation poses to us:

1. Chlorella. The fiber in chlorella binds with heavy metal, synthetic toxins and radiation and effectively pulls them from the body.  Be sure that the Chlorella you purchase comes from Taiwan since Japan Chlorella has the potential for radiation contamination.  I do not recommend Chlorella from China.  Radiation is constantly measured in Taiwan – updated every 5 minutes.   The Chlorella we sell has been tested and is radiation free.

2. KELP. Effectively pulls heavy metals, and radiation from the body. The high amounts of iodine in kelp also help protect the thyroid from radiation damage.

3. Spirulina. Also has iodine in it that helps protect the thyroid from damage from radiation. Spirulina has phycocyanin that helps protect the thyroid from radiation damage.  Here are several studies that have been done in the area of the radioactive protection aspect of Spirulina.

Spirulina was used after to treat the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident in the 1990’s.  Here are the studies of the results of the Spirulina treatment:

4. FIR Sauna. The far infrared sauna warms the body from within and quite effectively causes us to sweat out heavy metals, synthetic toxins and radiation from the body.

5. Alkaline Ionized Water. The excessive amounts of hydroxyl ions (negative charged particles) causes an imbalance in the body that allows the body to rid itself of positively charged particles such as heavy metals and radiation particles. Ionized Water was first developed in Russia in the 1960’s as a method to remove radiation from the body.

6. Shiljit (Himalayan clay). Ancient primordial matter than has been crushed for millennia by the pressure of the tectonic plates pressing up against one another. it is excellent for binding with toxins of all kinds, including radiation, and removing it from the body.

7. Liquid Carbon. Carbon has amazingly absorbent qualities. When consumed it is excellent for ridding the body with toxins such as heavy metals, synthetic toxins and especially radiation.

8. Redmond Clay and zeolite. Both these materials are effective at absorbing and removing radiation from the body. Most clays that are approved for consumption help bind with radiation and remove it from the body.

9. Angstrom Iodine. Iodine protects the thyroid, as discussed above.  Angstrom refers to the size of the minerals that are present.  At the angstrom level, we are dealing with individual atoms.  By taking the liquid into the mouth the minerals will absorbed directly into the body through the sublingual gland into the bloodstream.   Take one capful of liquid Angstrom Minerals and hold them under your tongue for 2-10 minutes then swallow the remainder.  The longer you hold them there, the more they will be absorbed into the bloodstream and therefore the body.

Your Crazy Old Aunt – Why People Get Dementia

Dementia is common amongst the elderly and arrives like a hurricane in slow motion.  The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s Disease, second is Lewy Body Disease.  Regardless of what you call it, dementia is when someone loses touch with reality.  It usually starts with small things, such as someone forgetting a loved one’s name, or the street number of where they have lived for the last 20 years.  Sometimes it progresses into something more puzzling such as a person insisting that there husband or wife will be home soon when in fact they have passed away.  Medical science has yet to determine what causes dementia.  They have autopsied people who died of these diseases and never found the cause, but rather the result of dementia.

The Cause of Dementia
Dementia is caused by toxicity of the brain, a lifetime of accumulated heavy metals, hydrocarbons (oil-based elements) and an endless variety of other elements that simply do not belong in the brain.  Aluminum has been found in the brains of those who were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.  This is a clear indication that heavy metals lead to problems in the brain.

Electricity of Thought
The brain is a delicate dance of neurochemicals and electricity.  It stands to reason that when our brain becomes clogged and congested with foreign particles, toxins, especially heavy metals, it will not be able to function as it should any longer.  Metals of any kind that are lodged in the brain interfere with the electrical activity that allows the brain to function.  The brain is essentially a sponge comprised mostly of fat that is prone to collecting foreign particles that may find its way into it.

Chemicals of Thought
The other problem that caused dementia is an imbalance of brain chemicals.  One herb called Mucuna contains an amino acid called L-Dopa, which is a precursor to the production of dopamine in the brain.  L-Dopa also leads to the production of melatonin and human growth hormone (HGH).  This causes a cascading effect of the production of other brain chemicals and it is this delicate balance of chemicals in the brain that allows us to think clearly.  Other herbs such as Ginkgo Biloba and Gotu Kola contain acids that the brain uses for concentration, reason and memory.  Once again, the presence of toxins in the brain disrupts the production and function of these chemicals.  The result is lacking concentration, reason, and a failing memory.

Accumulation Leads to Blurriness
When we begin to view toxins that are lodged in the brain from this viewpoint, it is easier to understand why a lifetime of this toxic abuse is what eventually leads to dementia.  Dementia begins with forgetfulness and ends with forgetting who our closest loved ones are.

How to Avoid Dementia
There are several steps we can take to avoid the crippling results of dementia:

  • Keep the brain constantly hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.  This is the most fundamental action we must take to be healthy and to keep our brain, our command center, properly hydrated is critical to brain health.  If the brain is not hydrated it cannot get the toxins out of it that have found a way to enter it.
  • Eating Chlorella is key to removing heavy metals from the body so they don’t accumulate in the tissue and brain.  The fiber in Chlorella binds with heavy metals and removes them from the body.  Kelp also removes heavy metals, as does cilantro.  EDTA [Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid] is used as a suppository and is effective for removing heavy metals from the body because it is able to avoid the liver.
  • Consistent use of a Far Infrared Sauna (FIR).  FIR waves are able to penetrate 2 – 4 inches into the flesh and the cells in the body begin to vibrate at the same frequency as the FIR waves which cause toxins to be released from the cells.  This phenomenon is called resonant absorption and it causes the body to actually sweat out toxins such as heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides and a plethora of other elements that do not belong in the body.
  • Stop putting things into your body that don’t belong there to begin with.  Stop eating cooked foods and start eating raw foods.  Cooked foods deposit their toxins in the body and brain, raw foods do not.  In fact, they help remove toxins that have deposited themselves in the body.

Integrating these basic lifestyle changes in your life and adding the herbs mentioned above will keep your mind clear and will allow your mind to always function properly.  It is this path that will not allow you to one day suffer from dementia.

Fucoxanthin found in KELP is a powerful antioxidant.  There is a product that claims that Fucoxanthin helps with weight loss and I don’t see the evidence for that.  It’s the Iodine in KELP that works with endocrine and metabolism connection that is the real fat burner.  It is very effective for weight loss.

Two Famous Doctors and Both are Wrong

Dr. Joseph Mercola and Dr. T. Colin Campbell, author of the China Study – The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-Term Health, have been arguing publicly over whether the vegetarian diet is actually healthy for a person.  A vegetarian diet is one in which a person eats no meat at all, and a vegan diet is one where a person does not eat meat, fish, eggs or dairy products.  I am currently a vegan and will remain one for the rest of my life.  I became a vegetarian in 1980 while traveling in India.  I was a vegetarian for 18 years before I became a vegan 13 years ago.

The Wrong Way to Be a Vegan
I believe that Dr. Mercola is completely wrong about the vegetarian diet, which he denounces, and the vegan, which he states is actually dangerous for us.   I could not disagree with those sentiments more.  Mercola sites the actress Angelia Jolie to support his case that veganism is dangerous for us because she was a vegan for a few years and became quite sick.  Another person who claims the same thing happened to him is Daniel Vitalis, the elixir master, who states he was a vegan for five years before his health started to decline and five years later after the same diet he claims nearly killed him.  I don’t doubt that it did, nor do I doubt that Angelia Jolie became ill after living on a vegan diet for a few years.  There is a right way and wrong way to go on a vegan diet and apparently neither of them did so in the right way.

The Healthy Way to Be Vegan
I am an example of someone who has gone about it in the right way.  After 12 years of being on a vegan diet, without any meat, fish, eggs or dairy in my diet, I still run daily, often at a six minute sustained pace.  I am a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and still spar quite often.  I am 53 (born in 1957) and can outlast anyone in the ring.  I am no one special, and I am living proof that a vegan diet is not only healthy, but is indeed the healthiest diet that we can live on, as long as we go about it the right way.

Who Promotes What and Why
Dr. Mercola is 100% wrong in promoting an animal based diet.  Dr. Mercola sells ostrich meat, salmon, buffalo, as well as fish oil and krill oil for the omega 3 fatty acids it contains, which is also unnecessary in my opinion because these fatty acids can easily be found in the plant world.  Dr. Mercola believes that only “high quality” meat and fish that have not been factory farmed should be consumed.  I have nothing against him selling any of these things because I think it is an extension of what he believes.  However, I have seen people such as David Wolfe interviewing him and referring to him as some sort of health guru when they should be taking him to task for his promotion of animal consumption.  David Wolfe is a vegan and it is my opinion that when it comes to such a fundamental principle, such as whether it is healthy to eat animal products, it does not suffice to simply say that we will agree to disagree.

Why Meat Kills
The reason that eating animal protein is one of the worst things for our health is simple.  First, we should establish that everyone always cooks their animal protein.  Rarely does anyone eat raw meat, fish, eggs or dairy, although there is a strong movement to consume raw dairy, in particular raw goat’s milk.  I am not against this, but it certainly is not necessary for us to consume if we wish to be healthy.  The problem with animal protein is that it is a pre-formed protein chain of amino acids that are then brought to high temperatures during the cooking process.  The higher the temperature and the longer the animal protein is cooked at these temperatures, the more harmful the animal protein becomes to our health.  Although it is not desirable, exposing plant proteins (unstructured amino acids) to high temperatures does not have the same deleterious effects on our health.

The Raw Paleo-Diet
Around 1900 – 1910, the latest health fad to sweep through Europe and the United States was the Raw Milk Cure.  People found that if they began consuming fresh raw cow’s milk, they felt better and their health improved.  Eating raw, organic meat, fish, eggs or dairy products is not harmful to our health, although I do not believe they are necessary for good health and are not required unless no other protein source is available.  Eating raw animal protein from a commercial size factory-farm could potentially be detrimental to our health.

The Flaw in the China Study
The China Study by Dr. Campbell is easily one of the best books I have read on the subject of health and vegetarianism.  It is one of the few books on health I have read twice.  It is a comprehensive study, the most comprehensive controlled study in history, and it demonstrates beyond any doubt that those who live on a meat-based diet have far greater incidences of serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke and cancer.  When I first read it, I was amazed to see in print what I had been saying for over 20 years, that removing meat from your diet leads to an overall healthier life.  However, where the China Study falls short is in suggesting protein sources other than fish, eggs and dairy products.  Nor does it attempt to determine whether there is a difference in health if we eat our vegetables cooked or uncooked.

Why They are Both Wrong
And this is why Dr. Mercola and Dr. Campbell are both wrong, although for different reasons.  I am amazed that anyone in the “natural health movement”, which Dr. Mercola purports himself to be, would even consider promoting animal protein as a primary food source.  I believe those that do so are sadly mistaken and are unwittingly misleading people.  Dr. Jordan Rubin, Garden of Life, told me that it was important that we have meat in our diet.  When I asked him why, he claimed it was because meat contains the amino acid L-Carnine, which does not stand up to scrutiny.  Our bodies are capable of producing L-Carnine, therefore it is not essential, meaning that it must be consumed because our bodies cannot produce it.  There are only eight essential amino acids that our bodies cannot produce.  In fact, there is nothing in meat that cannot be obtained in other foods.   The only reason to eat animal protein at all is for the taste.  Meat, for instance, is only about 20% protein on average.  The other 80% of meat is essentially useless to the body since it is sinew, tendons and fat.

The Raw Food Diet
Dr. Campbell is wrong to promote a vegetarian diet without suggesting an alternative protein source other than soy, which is terrible for our health.  Anyone moving to a vegetarian or vegan diet without adding an alternative protein source is eventually going to become ill, such as the case with Angelina Jolie and Daniel Vitalis, who lived primarily on fruit during his 10 years of veganism.  The Hygienists movement heavily promotes the consumption of fruit and are virulently opposed to consuming algae, which is why I have benighted them the food-nazis of the raw food movement.

Algae: The Perfect Protein Source
Now that I have soundly denounced the consumption of any kind of cooked animal protein, the question must be asked as to where we should get our protein.  The answer is from algae, Chlorella and Spirulina, which are 60% protein with 18 different amino acids in them that are in the correct ratio to one another.  Animal protein contains high amounts of some amino acids while others barely register.  It is this uneven amino acid compliment that makes animal food a poor choice for a protein base.  The notion that poultry is a superior food to red meat is a myth in my opinion.  For instance, chicken has 15 times the amount of methionine, a sulfur-based amino acid, than beef.  This is why you begin to smell like sulfur if you eat a lot of eggs since they contain even higher amounts of sulfur.  There are thousands of different kinds of algae that have been identified.  Spirulina, a blue-green algae and Chlorella, a green algae, are the healthiest and easiest to grow.  A person of any age could live exclusively on Chlorella and/or Spirulina and be perfectly healthy.  Essentially, there are no side effects, although both are extremely detoxifying, which some mistake as side effects.

I have been consuming both Spirulina and Chlorella for 14 years without any animal protein in my diet.  I have high amounts of energy, I am able to perform athletically better than I have for most of my adult life.   Another claim made by opponents of the vegan diet is that Vitamin B12 cannot be absorbed from plant sources such as algae.  Once again, I have had my vitamin B12 levels measured several times and they are fine.  The body is capable of manufacturing vitamin B12.  Probiotics stimulate the production of all the B vitamins.

Chlorella: The Single Most Studied Food in History

One of the most ridiculous comments I have ever heard Dr. Andrew Weil made is “They are good sources of chlorophyll, but there is little to no research supporting the claims made about the algae.” I wrote a rebuttal to his remarks.

Chlorella and Spirulina are the two most studied foods in history.  The studies come from countries all over the world and they never stop coming.  There are literally thousands of them.  We have compiled a few of them here.  At the bottom of the list of studies here is a compilation of studies on spirulina that was complied by Cyanotech.
